IRVINGTON, N.J. -- One man shot another man Monday morning and then fled in a vehicle with a woman and her 4-year-old daughter, authorities said. A statewide alert was being issued.
The wounded man was not likely to die, police Director Michael Damiano said.
He said the shooting happened shortly after 7 a.m., and that the suspected shooter may be related to the child.
Information for an Amber Alert, sent to broadcasters and placed on highway message signs when a child is abducted, was being compiled, Damiano and state police said. No description of the vehicle was immediately available, they said.
Then I would add that in my small town in PA, my property taxes are under $500 for a 4-bedroom house with a nice yard, a garage, and a corner lot. A similar house in Northern New Jersey, would be ten times as much tax. I know, I used to live there. (Full disclosure: it was somewhat larger and I actually paid TWENTY times as much tax.)
It looks like they gave the driver a bottle of water. An officer left something near the dor of the car, the door opened and the driver picked it up. Not sure if it was water or something else. Perhaps a cell phone.
I'm very jealous.
We have to stay close to our family for now.
We were in N.C. for a few years. Beautiful home.
Now we are in a box on a postage stamp that was 4x more than our home in N.C.
But family comes first.
Maybe a bottle for the baby?
They're confirming it was water.
Negotiator talking now.

The father of a 4-month-old girl shot the infant's grandfather Monday and then fled in a vehicle with the baby and her mother, authorities said.
A statewide alert was issued and the car stopped in a neighborhood about 56 miles west on Interstate 78 outside Phillipsburg.
Officers hid behind houses near the car, and a police helicopter hovered overhead.
The alert said the suspect threatened to commit murder and kill himself, but authorities did not release more details about the threats.
The girl's grandfather was struck in the leg and was expected to survive, said state police spokesman Stephen Jones. He said the shooting happened about 7 a.m.
An Amber Alert, sent to broadcasters and placed on highway message signs when a child is abducted, was issued shortly before 10 a.m. for Jada Saunders, who was described as a 4-month-old black girl.
She was taken by her father, Almutah Saunders, along with her mother, Erika Turner, in a 2001 gray-silver Honda Accord with New Jersey plates RJD-75V, possibly heading to the George Washington Bridge, according to the alert. It said that the suspect may be carrying a weapon.
Awww... what a cute baby!
Its happening in my sisters town..she says there is a line of helicopters overhead!
Updates....we need updates...blow by blow info!! Please!!
What a precious child. Prayers for her and her mother's safety.
They have everything shut down around here. A lot of police and helicopters. The buses that serve the development from the different schools will not allowed to leave. Some schools on lockdown.
The roads are all backed up.
Saunders is asking to speak to a Newark policeman. A TV has been brought into the area. Reporters not sure what the TV is for. They are saying Saunder's sister may live in the development. There is only one way in and out of the development, so once he turned in they were trapped.
Yeah. My wife just called me and told me there are tons of media and police choppers in the air.
