World War One Color Photos
Big D & Bubba Show ^ | 3/2/05 | Unknown

Posted on 03/03/2005 2:25:44 PM PST by Jinjelsnaps

Found this on another message board, and thought my fellow Freepers would enjoy the history.

From the site: "The color photo was invented in 1903 by the Lumiere brothers, and the French army was the only one taking color photos during the course of the war."

Since I snagged him, or at least tipped off MeekOneGOP, do I get a "Deepest Troll" of the month award of some type? :)

Award? Hmmmm?? I must have something around here. But I don't seem to have anything like that handy.

How about a photo of the ZOT?

EagleEye MarineBrat takes his best shot!

Probably just suspened, and not ZOT'ted.

He is, after all, one of The Immortals, and therefore exempt from punishment.

I wondered about that, too. I guess we'll find out in 72 hours or thereabouts.

Anyone bragging about bashing like that, though? Sheesh!

No such category. Commie Basher is gone.

Long time coming. Quite a powerful little troll to be gestating so long - but once the zot finally finds you, it's over.

Yep! Someone suggested (and I had wondered if) maybe it was only a suspension.

But it's *official*, from the horse's mouth. He's toast.

Many thanks for this post....from a WWI buff.

During the three days I spent in DC participating in the Great FR March for Justice, I spent 99% of my time freeping and 1% in the WWI exhibit in the Smithsonian, LOL.

I also like to visit a museum dedicated to the history of the "Big Red One", the famous First Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.

The museum is locted on the beautiful acreage of the Wheaton, Illinois (western suburb of Chicago) estate of the late Colonel Robert R. McCormick, former publisher of the Chicago Tribune.

McCormick named his estate Cantigny in honor of the first American battle of the war.

The museum has fantastic dioramas of battles, WWI tanks and artillery dot the grounds, and there's even a re-creation of a front line trench. You can walk through it "at night" as shells burst over your head and bullets whizz by. A sobering experience.....and there's hardly anyone alive with first hand experience of the bloody trench warfare of this awful war.

I rarely agree with you, but you are absolutely right in this whole post. It has got to suck to have had French Grandparents who sacked up in WWI on behalf of what the country has become now.

'It happened there.
It wants to happen here.
No one is immune. '

Well said.
