What Really Happened?: Survey Results Debunk the Myths of 2004 Election

GUEST COLUMNISTS

Washington. The theories from liberals and the old media as to why John Kerry lost the presidential election reconfirm that they just don't understand the values and priorities of middle-class America. While they seem to believe that most Americans who voted for President Bush are idiots, religious zealots, or both, the results from our post-election survey show the American people gave President Bush a clear victory for practical and common-sense reasons. They voted for George W. Bush because they trusted his character and were more in agreement with him on the two most important issues of the day: fighting the war on terror and improving the economy.

In spite of what liberals and the media may say, the voters made an educated and rational decision in giving President Bush a clear victory on Election Day.

Myth #1: The American people don't like George W. Bush or his policies.

Fact: A clear majority of voters (54 percent) approves of the job Bush has done as President.

Ironically, President Bush's favorable rating was lower than his job approval rating. This means people voted for Bush because they believed he was doing a good job and agreed with him on the most important issues of the day, which were keeping America safe from terror and improving the economy.

Myth #2: American voters didn't vote for Bush; they were voting against Kerry, and didn't want to change horses during a time of war.

Fact: 83 percent of Bush voters said they were voting for George W. Bush; while only 11 percent said they were voting against John Kerry. The leading responses as to why Americans voted for Bush were because they felt he was doing a good job and they agreed with him on the issues.

"Some of us devout Pubbies see our President as a caring individual, who took charge after 9-11."

Some of us with an "I" after our names as well who prefer to observe things for ourselves and make up our own minds on things based on facts, not just what our party line tells us we should think. (this is in no way saying that you nor any other specific 'Pubbie' doesn't think for yourself, although I'm sure they're out there) I'd wager even some Democrats fit that sentence in your post.

Bush's oil company was marginal at best. I lived in Midland during the time, and I work in the oil business. His company got crushed in the oil collapse of the mid 1980's like hundreds of other small oil companies. There's no shame in that.

Was he able to use his name to open up other doors for investment? I'd have to guess yes. But that's far different than your assertion that he was given a lot of money from "daddy." As far as I know, and I know the family history pretty well, he wasn't given ANY money from "daddy."

What was the name of that Newsweek asst. editor who said that the MSM's bias toward Kerry was worth 15% of the vote? I believe it. Had the MSM fulfilled the role of an objective reporter of the campaign, not as a cheerleader with a partisan agenda, Bush would have won by probably 18% (the 3% he won by, plus an additional 15% for lack of media bias). A 59%-41% Bush vs. Kerry win -- a Reaganesque margin of victory -- sounds about right to me. We can be greatly encouraged by the fact that the MSM threw everything they could at Pres. Bush, including making things up when they ran out of ammo, and he still won.

Yes. But Reagan had to face the mendacity of the lying MSM, and the Communist peace movement propaganda arms, as well. And he still won by Reaganesque margins.

What was the difference? Reagan went after them. He didn't let the lies fester. And he branded disengenous liberals as such. GWB was too much Mr. Nice Guy.

This is a treasure! I loved reading it, and proves that the media are liars like the party they promote so fiercely!

"If it wasn't for the four-year msm media pounding, Bush would have won by 15 points. The interesting fact is that the country is shifting right as evidenced by the congressional election results.

This is the fact....this election wouldn't have even been close without the lying, whoring media. They have become so Un-American as to be laughable.

I voted for GWB because I believe him.

I would never vote for John Kerry because of this: John Kerry had a choice to make after his third purple heart, stay with his men or go home.

He chose to go home.

No real leader would have ever left, unless his injuries were such that he could not effectively lead.

He has no honor

It would have been O.K. had he been enlisted, not NCO.

Interesting analysis...

While they seem to believe that most Americans who voted for President Bush are idiots, religious zealots, or both...

That about sums up the bigots who think everyone is stupid that doesn't agree with them... "Blue" state arrogance. And since they're so inclined to Socialism and National Socialism, who decided they were blue and not commie red anyway? Was that a "big media" decision?

You weren't paying attention when Kerry said his father was very wealthy? Not to mention his wife is the heir to Heinz Ketchup!? Probably both candidates got something to start with in business with their respective 'daddies'.
Bush invested in gas and oil.

>The frat boy cheerleader got it all from daddy<

Sour grapes, CP? You couldn't be more wrong, but then you
don't know what you're talking about. Try reading "A Matter
of Character" by Ronald Kessler, and a few other books by
people who know GWB.

As far as I know, and I know the family history pretty well, he wasn't given ANY money from "daddy."

When one looks at GWBs history growing up, you see a strong family relationship, but a consistant pattern of his father letting him take his lumps without intervention when he messes up, and GWB striking out to do things on his own without family input - so that he knew he'd done it ALL on his own. His family made him the PERSON he is, but GWBs accomplishments are his own.

Good comments. Bush received a some small amount of money that was in some trust which he used to start his oil company (I'm writing this for the benefit of others, as I'm sure you know the details). What W showed is that he is someone who is willing to take advantage, not of pedgree, but of the opportunities this nation provides. He didn't inherit anything (like Ted Kennedy), or marry into wealth (like John Kerry), or gain riches by bilking the system (like Hillary), but by taking the risks of a capitalist, salvaging his company through a merger when the bottom fell out of the oil market (which ruined many small operators), and put together other successful partnerships and ventures. W made his money the old fashioned way...he worked for it, risked much, and was rewarded much for sound investment decisions.
