Bush's oil company was marginal at best. I lived in Midland during the time, and I work in the oil business. His company got crushed in the oil collapse of the mid 1980's like hundreds of other small oil companies. There's no shame in that.

Was he able to use his name to open up other doors for investment? I'd have to guess yes. But that's far different than your assertion that he was given a lot of money from "daddy." As far as I know, and I know the family history pretty well, he wasn't given ANY money from "daddy."

When one looks at GWBs history growing up, you see a strong family relationship, but a consistant pattern of his father letting him take his lumps without intervention when he messes up, and GWB striking out to do things on his own without family input - so that he knew he'd done it ALL on his own. His family made him the PERSON he is, but GWBs accomplishments are his own.

Good comments. Bush received a some small amount of money that was in some trust which he used to start his oil company (I'm writing this for the benefit of others, as I'm sure you know the details). What W showed is that he is someone who is willing to take advantage, not of pedgree, but of the opportunities this nation provides. He didn't inherit anything (like Ted Kennedy), or marry into wealth (like John Kerry), or gain riches by bilking the system (like Hillary), but by taking the risks of a capitalist, salvaging his company through a merger when the bottom fell out of the oil market (which ruined many small operators), and put together other successful partnerships and ventures. W made his money the old fashioned way...he worked for it, risked much, and was rewarded much for sound investment decisions.
