RUDY TURNED MOST VOTERS TOWARD PREZ

September 6, 2004 -- Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani's speech at the Republican National Convention swayed more voters to re-elect President Bush than the speeches given by Sen. John McCain and Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a new poll shows. Giuliani's 40-minute speech Monday night convinced 24 percent of those polled to vote for the GOP ticket, according to a recent Newsweek poll.

That's compared to 20 percent who said they were more likely to vote for Bush after hearing Schwarzenegger's speech Tuesday night. Just 20 percent said McCain's speech persuaded them to vote Republican in the Nov. 2 election.

Giuliani is said to be considering a presidential run in 2008, but some say his pro-choice, pro-gay rights record wouldn't make a good fit for a GOP ticket.

He may be right. Her speach and Cheney's fell flat for me. To tell the truth so did the President's. Zell and Schwarzenegger did it for me. I realize that they have to reach different sectors of the public, so that's fine with me. I've read some comments expressed by folks who thought Bush really connected. Perhaps he did for some.

Giulani would not make a good VP,he's too liberal to be a heart beat away from the Presidency. 'Sides I think his wife said "no."

Maybe it's because Rudy went first.

Good analysis... that would explain why Laura was the most popular, easily.

I'm glad she's taking a more prominent role.

Where do you get that. Giulani has been on record as more pro-abortion than Hilary Clinton. He has never once questioned partial birth abortion.

80% of Republicans are pro-life. One might convince 30% off that 80% to vote for a pro-death candidate, but that leaves Rudy, on a national scale, without 50% of the base.

Not going to happen in the next 10 years. The Libertarian, McCainite leg of the party are only 20% of the party. Although I like Giuliani better than McCain (The Confused), they are both without oars in the water and anchors on their boats.

Guiliani will be a Senator from New York in 2008, having rendered Hillary a defeated laughingstock and exposed her as too liberal to win even intensely liberal New York.

How many votes did Zell's speech turn?

The media is afraid to even ask that question.

You're looking for Rudy's speach, correct?

There is an increasing body of academic research showing that journalism is being slanted heavily to the left through two techniques, story selection and "framing." The first is obvious---don't cover pro-life marches, cover eight angry NAGS at a "pro-choice" march. The latter means using biased or "coded" words to set up a story before getting to the meat of the story. For ex., if the story is about tax cuts, work in the phrase "tax cuts for the wealthy" somewhere early, or discuss a millionaire. If it is welfare, make sure the story has a welfare mom whose husband left her and who has three kids, not a crack ho who has made a much different choice.

I think Zell spoke to women also.

Mrs. Newland, a.k.a. "little rebel" was most impressed with our home state Senator, Zell Miller. She was still pumped up the next day!

little rebel is a major lurker, please call for her to post!

It would be nice if Giuliani was a VP incumbent.

Nothing negative about Giuliani, but given the international security situation right now, I want Cheney right where he is. There is no one else around who can do that job except perhaps Rumsfeld, only Cheney is a better politician and Rumsfeld already has a vital job.

Giuliani would make an excellent Mayor of New York. His is not EVER going to be the President of the United States. He is pro-gay marriage, pro gun-control, and pro-abortion. He was tossed from the Mayor's mansion for cheating on his wife.

There is no scenario where he could capture a Republican convention. The pro-abortion position alone would disqualify him.

I like the guy. I like him speaking on our guy's behalf. I think he has strong leadership qualities for the right job, but he cannot be President. (And he won't be President)

Thanks for the personal inside there. Little Rebel, you need to let us hear your views. Polishing your ability to defend conservatism is a good thing. All the best to both of you.

Watching on CSpan, Gov Mitt Romney made a great impression. From what I can see, he is pro life, pro 2nd amendment, and tough on the war on terror.

He went to the convention of mayors in Boston, when the police union was striking, which is something Kerry wouldn't do. Romney showed a lot of guts going to dem mayoral conference, and Kerry looked like a wuss.

Romney also has a business background, running the 2002 Olympics superbly. I think he is someone to watch for 08.

I also love Jeb Bush. But the "Bush Dynasty" hysterics would drown out anything he tried to say.

Interesting. I was wondering how much of an impact Laura had. Guess Dick Morris was right. She was the hit of the convention.

I liked them all, but probably McCain the least.
