ANTI-KERRY VETS HANG TOUGH
Drudge Report ^ | Fri Aug 06 2004 13:37:12 ET

Posted on 08/06/2004 10:51:08 AM PDT by Brian Mosely

The following statement from Swift Boat Veterans for Truth concerns an article appearing in morning edition of the Boston Globe:

"Viet Vet Captain George Elliott describes an article appearing in today’s edition of the Boston Globe by Mike Kranish as extremely inaccurate and highly misstating his actual views. He reaffirms his statement in the current advertisement paid for by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Captain Elliott reaffirms his affidavit in support of that advertisement, and he reaffirms his request that he ad be played.

“Additional documentation will follow.

The article by Mr. Kranish is particularly surprising given page 102 of Mr. Kranish’s own book quoting John Kerry as acknowledging that he killed a single, wounded, fleeing Viet Cong soldier whom he was afraid would turn around.

“Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has more than 250 supporters who are revealing first hand, eyewitness accounts of numerous incidents concerning John Kerry’s military service record. The organization will continue to discuss much of what John Kerry has reported as fact concerning his four-month tour of duty in Vietnam.”

They may try to roll out MCCAIN again by 5 p.m. Eastern

I called McCain's Tucson office (where I live) yesterday morning. Nice young woman listened and I did ask if she'd received other calls as I noticed the line had been busy. She'd received four up to that point and it was just after 10am local time yesterday morning. I am quite confident McCain was inundated with outraged calls at all of his offices. We shall see, but I think any more comments from him will refrain from using words about these vets like "dishonest".

Rush also said the few copies of the book that did get out are now collector's items because it's not being published.

That powerful video brought 9.11 back to me. Imagine these images will reappear in '04. I hope.

I missed that. I turn down the sound during ads, and often miss a lot when he comes back on.

Real easy. You register the domain first, it's all yours. You point it anywhere you like. www.whois.com reports it was registered by an individual in Tokyo in May of this year. Somebody's been worried about this for a long time...

Also left unexplained is how someone, hit in the leg with an M60 machine gun round (7.62 x 51mm) from Kerry's forward gunner, can run at all.

IIRC the little VC was popped with twin .50 cal. machine gun. Can't run too far after that.

The reporter's behavior is truly appalling.

I do not ascribe to most journalistic codes that say you can't be involved in politics while being a journalist.

But to write a campaign book...that is a clear conflict of interest.

I don't know how much clearer it could be.

This is a clear violation of the Society for Pressional Journalists Code of Ethics:

"Act Independently Journalists should be free of obligation to any interest other than the public's right to know. Journalists should: Avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived. Remain free of associations and activities that may compromise integrity or damage credibility. Refuse gifts, favors, fees, free travel and special treatment, and shun secondary employment, political involvement, public office and service in community organizations if they compromise journalistic integrity. Disclose unavoidable conflicts. Be vigilant and courageous about holding those with power accountable. Deny favored treatment to advertisers and special interests and resist their pressure to influence news coverage. Be wary of sources offering information for favors or money; avoid bidding for news."

Make sure to point this violation of ethics in any phone calls:

From the book...

O'Neill continues: "Kerry's boat moved slightly downstream and was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade. . . .A young Viet Cong in a loincloth popped out of a hole, clutching a grenade launcher, which may or may not have been loaded. . . Tom Belodeau, a forward gunner, shot the Viet Cong with an M-60 machine gun in the leg as he fled. . . . Kerry and Medeiros (who had many troops in their boat) took off, perhaps with others, and followed the young Viet Cong and shot him in the back, behind a lean to."

He wasn't running, but he did have some leg left. The twin .50's would have changed even that...

You called Mccain? Good for you!

I did and thanks for the kudos. I posted yesterday about it and now I see it was just before 10am local time and she'd already received 4 other calls:

My Call to McCain

Got through to McCain's Tucson office. Very nice female listened to my concerns about McCain using words like "dishonest" regarding this group.

I pointed to the May press conference the group held where they declared themselves as non-partisan and not affiliated with the Republicans. Their concern was John Kerry being put forth as the dem nominee and they find him "unfit" and that is their concern, not partisan "dirty tricks".

I said I was dismayed that McCain would so hastily imply there might be Republicans pushing the men forward. I said I watched the May press conference and I have seen the ad on the internet. I said these men had eyewitness stories to tell and that they were Vietnam Vets, too, just like John Kerry and Senator McCain and they deserved the respect and chance to have their voices heard. I added that I found the men serious and credible.

Finally I said it is frustrating to see attack after attack on GWB from Moore, Clarke, Wilson and so on, with charges that time after time turn out to be false, and I don't see Senator McCain stepping forward to as vociferously denounce those. I did say I was sure the media ran like the wind to get comment from him on this as it was about "Vietnam" and I would like him to step back and not be so quick to denounce or use words like "dishonest" when to what I can see these men appear to have something to say that looks to be true.

She was nice and took my name and address. I'm sure I will receive the usual form letter thanking me for calling. I did ask if she'd heard about the ad and received other calls. She said yes, she'd received about 4 calls.

The liberal media is now operating much more like a true propaganda machine from the communist mold, with a true ideology to support through smear reporting, twisting facts, and outright lies - all being directed by 'political officers' (editors) and 'political cadres' (reporters). I know. I used to live in a communist country.

"Can Elliot sue Krainish?"

Sure seems like he could. One would think that Krainish has those quotes documented (he does work for a major newspaper, where one would think this would be SOP, Jayson Blair to the contrary).

Time will tell, but I think the end result of this "he said, she said" is gonna be those quotes are accurate, just taken out of context and, when placed in context, ambiguous enough for different people to draw different conclusions.

The "other side" may be immoral in some respects, but I doubt they'd be stupid enough to have someone easily connectable to Kerry flat out fabricate such a high-profile piece.

We'll see.
