As a first-generation American I care passionately for this country and I fear for its future. And as an active Democrat, I support the Kerry-Edwards ticket for two fundamental reasons: First, I believe that their view of America and of our domestic economic and social priorities will improve the prospects of a better future for all Americans; and second, I believe that their view of America's position in the world and its relationship to our allies will make us safer in today's dangerous global environment.
The Bush administration came into office with a wealth of experience and a radical view of our domestic as well as of our foreign policy. Their domestic economic policies consisted of large transfers of wealth to upper-income Americans through tax cuts, of large deficits, a cheap dollar and high levels of debt. Significant increases in defense, a recession and the war in Iraq added hundreds of billions of dollars to the deficit. Internationally, the administration took an equally radical approach, jeopardizing 50 years of American leadership on a whole range of international institutions and agreements.
The initial reaction of the Bush administration to the events of 9/11 was thoroughly effective and professional. It assembled a broad international coalition, under a U.N. resolution, and won a quick military victory in Afghanistan. And then it was diverted to Iraq, ignoring the objections of key allies and the U.N. and ending up in the morass we see today.
Four years into its term, both the domestic and foreign policies of the Bush administration have, in many respects, failed. Our budget, currency, debt and trade balance, have all deteriorated dramatically; our deficits and sagging dollar have raised the potential of an eventual financial crisis. What is more, I believe that Americans are less safe -- despite the capture of Saddam Hussein -- and less well off, despite the rise in the stock market.

where's the asshole alert
Hey, Felix, go Leahy yourself! Who cares what you 'think'?
And there you have it. That's why I can't discuss politics with Dems. Their "logic" is totally lost on me...and mine on them.
Ah. The plan is revealed.......
Explain the number of drug company lobbyists that exceed the number of members of Congress. Explain the number of ex-cabinet level advisors to our arch enemy Saudi Arabia. Explain our inability to guard our boarders. Explain our inability to stop the infiltration of Moslem fanatics to the US, and deportation of what we have here already. Explain our continued aid to Egypt yet its government control media continues to portray the US as evil infidels. Explain Abu Ghreib. Explain awarding the telecom contract in Iraq to a bankrupt company called WorldCom. Explain how after the Moslem fanatic government in Sudan murdered 2 million of its Christian citizens, we are still unable to lift a finger against them. Explain how Clinton's war on Serbia was misuse of the US power. Explain how bush after almost four years in office is unable to reverse this shameful hostility towards Serbia. Explain how we continue calling the Moslem terrorists attacks in Russia and Kosovo a rebel movement.
It is one thing to be proud of our country, and it is another thing to think that we are too perfect for this world.
"is for the U.S. to stay the course and to involve the U.N. and our allies to the greatest possible extent, both in security needs as well as in reconstruction."
In other words, continue the policy that Bush is already pursuing.
Please note that I said "not corrupt enough".
The only reason why most of these idiots are voting for john f'n is because they passionatly hate George W. Bush. I have a friend, nice lady, who hates Bush but claims to be conservative and is is voting for kerry. She has no clue as to why she hates Bush other than she feels she was lied to and kerry seems to be the "great white hope". The article is basically saying the same thing. These people like the author and my friend don't realize what they are going to help turn this country into, which is a complete Socialist State. We all know socialists are commies without a violent revolution and bin laden and his friends will then find us ripe for the pickins!
>The typical leftist delusion: Tax-cuts (keeping more of MY money) is a "transfer" of wealth. Crazy talk.<
Crazy like a fox. It keeps the "little people" on your side, and, in true leftist fashion, it projects your ultimate goal onto your opponent.

Where's the barf alert?
I agree to a point. However, my girlfriend is calm, happy and well-adjusted, and a Democrat. However, she's also a public school teacher.
"The ones who are emotional at the drop of a hat, and unhappy, and who can't discuss an issue with you without getting all emotional and worked up, without exception are "D"."
Yes, women do tend to vote democrat.
So now The Wall Street Journal is printing dog-bites-man stories?
I believe that their view of America's position in the world and its relationship to our allies will make us safer in today's dangerous global environment.
He said words to the effect that we were not courrupt enough to fit into the UN, not that we too perfect for the world...
And some of your issues are easily explained; for example, if you are a drug company, Congress can eviscerate your earnings at a whim. It behooves you have a lobbyist or fifty watching out for your interests in DC. Multipy that by the number of drug companies...
And so on.
"Why I'm not voting for Kerry!"
Traitor, Liberal, Hypocrite, Liar, Propagandist, Terrorist Friend, Married Heinz Terrorist Supporter, etc...
Explain our inability to guard our boarders.
Another hemmeorrhoid on the bum of society.
