The letter was posted late Wednesday on Web sites where al Qaeda supporters and other militants leave messages - and where Johnson's kidnappers first made their demands - as well as aired on a Saudi-owned television network, al-Arabiya. The station said it had confirmed the man's identity.
The letter Wednesday, signed by Saad al-Mu'men - a pseudonym meaning "Saad The Believer," - identified the writer as a Saudi friend of Johnson's and said he had bestowed his protection as a Muslim on Johnson, who has spent 10 years in Sauda Arabia, working for Lockheed Martin.
If Johnson is harmed, it read, "I will never forgive you. I will curse you in all my prayers." It pointed to a saying by Islam's Prophet Muhammad: "If they were granted [Muslim] protection, then killing or taking their money or harming them is forbidden."
Other contributors to the sites where the letter was posted ridiculed the message and called for Johnson's death.
And where is he supposed to get the troops to do this? Saudi is much bigger and much more empty than Iraq. We could destroy it easily enough, a matter of pushing a few buttons, but I don't think we can take it over in any useful sense. We could take the capitial and the oild fields, but we'd have the same problem holding and maintaining those as we are having in Iraq, only more so.
Still it might be worth the bother, just to really PO Osama and his Islamofacists.
