WASHINGTON, May 27 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The John Kerry for President campaign announced today that Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry has been endorsed by 100 African American mayors from across the United States.

"I am committed to building a stronger America and I believe that in order to be successful in that effort there must be a strong partnership between federal and local government," Kerry said. "I am honored to have the support of this outstanding group of mayors who serve their communities each and every day. Together, we will build a stronger America by fighting to put our economy back on track, creating new and better jobs, expanding access to affordable health care and improving our nation's schools."

Today's announcement is the result of a recent meeting, which was hosted by Wellington Webb, former mayor of Denver Colorado, with mayors at the National Conference of Black Mayors 30th Annual Convention in Philadelphia where Kerry spoke and pledged to work with mayors as President and promised to continue a dialogue with them through annual meetings with all the nation's mayors.

"Senator Kerry believes that first defenders should be a priority," said Wellington Webb, former Mayor of Denver who also joined the Mayors in endorsing Kerry. "He is committed to working with our country's mayors and ensuring that law enforcement officers, firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) have the equipment needed to do their job safely and effectively."

"The White House has allowed America's cities to languish," said Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Detroit, Michigan. "It's time for a change in leadership. It's time for a president who can build America, restore jobs, and get our nation back on track. It's time for John Kerry."

"As president, John Kerry would have a tremendous impact on small town America," said Mayor Floyd Griffin, Milledgeville, Georgia. "His message of economic development and creating jobs is crucial to areas like mine and I am excited to campaign for him here in Georgia and throughout the country."

"I believe that John Kerry can bring our cities together to solve our country's most crucial issues," said Mayor Shirley Gibson, Miami Gardens, Florida. "Our country deserves a president that represents all Americans and serves all their interests."

Ronald Wooding - Denver, CO

Umm Ronald is NOT the mayor of Denver, never heard of the guy. Our Mayor is John Hickenlooper, and he is not black, in fact although the mayoral race is "non-partisan" I'd be willing to bet he votes Republican.

Being from Texas I checked out the populations of these "cities" according to the 2000 census:

Cleveland 7,605
Forest Hill 12,949
Whitewright 1,740
Ames 1,079
Bellmead 9,176
Crawford 705
Kyle 5,314

Now meanin' no disrespect to the fine folks from these towns, that totals 38,606. That's about 35% the population of my town and I live in suburb of Dallas.

Why is this news, Effin?

The Democrats could nominate a mass-murdering child rapist and still get 90% of the African American vote. For some reason it is the most monolithic voting block ever.

Would it be any less racist if 100 white mayors endorsed Bush.

LOL, I think that would be highly non PC, but that is a good question.

So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio.

All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio waht's new?
Radio, someone still loves you!

Republicans freed the slaves; Democrats went to war to stop 'em.
Republicans founded the NRA; Democrats passed the first gun control laws in the South to *prohibit* Blacks from owning firearms.
Jim Crow laws; all passed by Democrats.
Bull Conner, George Wallace, and the highway patrolmen who beat Blacks on the Edmund Petus Bridge in Alabama: all Democrats.
Republicans introduced and passed in the House and Senate the 1965 Civil Rights Act; Democrats filibustered against it.
Republicans appointed the first Black Supreme Court Justice; Democrats waged war against him.
Republicans appointed Powell, Powell, Paige, and Rice to top-level federal positions; Democrats can't even put two Blacks onto Senator Kerry's campaign staff (even Donna Brazille is left out in the cold in favor of lily-White shrum).
Democrats let lily-White Pelosi steal Black Harold ford's House Minority Leadership role.
Democrats let lily-White MacAuliffe steal Maynard Jackson's DNC leadership role.
Republicans favor faith-based charities; Democrats oppose them.
Republicans favor private scholarships for inner city minority youths; Democrats oppose them.
Blacks and Republicans are overwhelmingly pro-life; Democrats are officially pro-abortion.

I'd say that Kwame, being the Mayor of Detroit, is almost exclusively responsible for allowing his City to languish to whatever extent that it has languished (a very great extent, I'm told).

"One Hundred African American Mayors Endorse John Kerry"

Of course they do...and they've all done such wonderful jobs with their own cities.../sarcasm

Anyone who has been even partially awake the last 40 years knew this would happen, it should just read: "Most African Americans endorse john kerry", and get it over with...as this fact is a known quantity going into the election.

His mother was the US Congresswoman for 7 years before Kwame was elected. She has opposed everything that would help Detroit and it's residents and made it a safe haven for terrorists.
