January 27, 2004--Senator John Kerry has pulled to within three points of George W. Bush in the Rasmussen Reports national tracking poll. Yesterday, Kerry trailed by five points.
Kerry is the most competitive of all Democrats in a general election match-up with the President. He is also the top choice among all Democrats to win the party's Presidential nomination.
Senator John Edwards trails the President by just five points, 45% to 40%.
Before the Iowa caucuses, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean and retired General Wesley Clark were the most competitive Democrats. Both now trail Bush by double digit margins.
Survey results show that a generic Democrat polls better than any individual candidate at this point in time.
These results are from a national telephone survey of 1,500 Likely Voters conducted by Rasmussen Reports over the past three nights. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points, with a 95% level of confidence.
Survey data showing the race between President Bush and a generic Democrat is updated daily on this site by noon.

LOL! I was teasing a friend of mine who prior to Iowa was a big Dean fan. After the Iowa debacle, I said, "what about your man Dean?" He chuckled and said "well, it's Kerry now." I said, "you democrats are so frickin' fickle, won't even stick with a guy for two weeks." He agreed and shrugged his shoulders.

This could be interpreted another way. Since Newsweek said Kerry now led Bush just three days ago, we could say that now "Kerry has fallen behind Bush" and is sinking fast.

take a look at the top rated network TV shows and then make the case for the intelligence level of the typical american.I'm not making any case, I'm commenting on your insult to everyone but some group of elite people, presumably you are among them.
Hillary etal took that opinion to an art form.
So, if Bush is reelected the dumb people all of a sudden got smart?

the election is decided by a small group of "independent" people in the middle. So you have to divide the electorate into segments. Make your case that the Democratic base, from what is known of them, are intelligent people? The "elites" you refer to are Dems for the most part, they consider themselves the "intelligensia" and chuckle that they have fooled so many and brought them to their side.
so the election comes down to is how many of the independents you can educate about what is going on. Alot of them listen to Rather/Brokaw/Jennings every night and that is their reality. And its being reflected in these polls, with nothing to counter it.

I trust the majority in the long run. They often get it wrong, but not usually for long. In anycase, they get what they deserve in the end.
IMO they are smarter than you.
You insult a whole lot of people, I guess that's what smart people do.

there isn't alot of margin for error anymore. the next time they "get it wrong", we could end up with nuclear devices going off in a couple of major US cities, instead of crashed airliners and downed buildings and 3000 dead. when that happens, there won't be much of a "in the long run" left to get it right again.
this country is at the tipping point right now, and I don't want the people deciding the fate for all of us to be "educated" by the new york times, CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN.
To: oceanview
Actually, it is not the seven and a half percent you have to worry about. It is the State by State analysis, which I'd guess make things look much brighter for Bush. Long Term however it is the Hispanic immigration you have to worry about. Republican politics don't translate well into South/Central American Spanish; and it gets worse at the second generation.

Yes, looks about right and I see you were prescient enough to pick up that Maine probably will not support Kerry or Dean. Kerry is particularly unpopular up there; they are often good at sniffing out phonies, at least on the national level.
Once upon a time I had a web site bookmarked that allowed you to play "What If" with the electoral college. Alas, it was deleted.
