U.S. forces capture Saddam Hussein at remote farmhouse near Tikrit, Iraq |

WASHINGTON, Dec. 14, 2003 -- We got him. U.S. Ambassador L. Paul Bremer II announced in Baghdad, Iraq, at about 7 a.m. this morning. Saddam Hussein was captured Saturday, Dec. 13, at about 8:30 p.m. local time, in a cellar in the town of Adwar, which is about 15 kilometers south of Tikrit.
This is a great day in Iraqs history, Bremer said to the Iraqi people. For decades, hundreds of thousands of you suffered at the hands of this cruel man. For decades Saddam Hussein divided you citizens against each other. For decades he threatened and attacked your neighbors. Those days are over forever.
Now it is time to look to the future to your future of hope, to a future of reconciliation. Iraqs future, your future, has never been more full of hope. |
"The tyrant is a prisoner. The economy is moving forward. You have before the prospect of a sovereign government in a few months. With the arrest of Saddam Hussein, there is a new opportunity for the members of the former regime, whether military or civilian to end their bitter opposition. Let them now come forward in a spirit of reconciliation and hope, lay down their arms and join you, their fellow citizens, in the task of building the new Iraq.
Now is the time for all Iraqis, Arabs and Kurds, Sunnis and Shia, Christian and Turkimen, to build a prosperous, democratic Iraq at peace with itself and with its neighbors.

Get one off of the "Gotta See This" thread, print it out on a good color printer, frame it and put glass over it.
I am going to use those for a special page on my WinningIraqiFreedom site.

I guess he was tired of being chased by those US soldiers all over Tikrit.

I still love the ABC radio news reporter saying that at his capture, Saddam looked like... Ted Kaczynski. Hey Saddam, you need to pay attention to that Grecian Formula (or other company) ad
for their beard dye to get rid of the gray. According to the commercial's spokesmen
(basketball great Walt Frazier and infamous baseball great Keith Hernandez)...
you've got to get that gray out of the beard in order to get the babes! Sad that our Canadian friends are at our side in Afghanistan...but not there
in Mountie uniforms in order to "get their man".
Maybe now that Chretien has moved aside, we can be closer again...

...Seems SADDAM was so busy moving himself around with his small entourage every 4 hours...
...that he probably was NOT the one personally mounting the Attacks against our Coalition Forces in Iraq.

They're Gonna Put Me in the Movies
They're gonna put me in the movies
They're gonna make a big star out of me
They'll make a film about a man that's sad and lonely
And all I gotta do is act naturally...

Thought one of the funniest things I heard this morning was an analyst saying it was ironic that Saddam could look across the Tigris River at the palaces he built while living in a hole. Said it will have a big impact on the Iraqi people that he was living in that hole!
What a wonderful Christmas season this has become -- Saddam is captured!

Great News!
To: Sacajaweau
Unfortunately, he's still alive. He will lie, lie, lie about WMD and all his atrocities. It will be his revenge!! We will give him a choice: "tell us what we want to know, the truth, the WHOLE truth. Tell us where everything is. Tell us about your relationships with Osama and others.
Do this and you will get a comfortable cell"
"Refuse, and we will turn you over to the people whose family members you put through the shredder"
"your choice"
Saddam is a coward.

This is wonderful news to wake up to! My cousin called me and said, "Turn on the news! Saddam's been captured!"
Still rubbing sleep from my eyes, trying to catch up on all the posts. Did they verify it with DNA? Can they match the -say brothers DNA to his? I'm still concerned that it's one of his body doubles.

Pat Buchanan said this is a glorious day and is talking about Saddam's trial will show the world why it was necessary to take this man out.
Pat is on fire with the good news of this capture. Pat wants to make sure that Saddam is alive to stand trial -- hand Saddam over right at the trial and not before.
Now playing comments of John Dean who does not seem happy at all -- what a jerk! Couldn't be more lowkey if he tried.
Clark then weasled worded his statement.
Pat now commenting -- Was unimpressed with Clark's statement! Said Dean's statement was what he should have said; however, went on to say that Lieberman took out Dean by saying that he (Dean) would still have Saddam in his palaces. Pat agreed that Dean's stand will hurt him big in the debates with Pres Bush!
Very good analysis by Pat Buchanan! Just thought you would like to know!
