Sanders was asked by Chuck Todd for his reaction to the attack on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, and he said, Its horrific. Its unthinkable, and just hopes go out to those who were shot that they can recover, and Ive got to tell you for twenty-five years now, Ive believed that we should not be selling automatic weapons which are designed to kill people, and weve got to do everything we can on top of that to make sure that guns do not fall into the hands of people who should not have them. Criminals and people who are mentally ill, so that struggle continues.
Todd followed up by asking if the nation can ever have a conversation about terrorism and guns without politicization. Sanders answered, I do, Chuck. Because I think that there is a very broad consensus in this country, not a hundred percent of the people, overwhelming majority of gun owners and non-gun owners understand that we have got to do everything we can to prevent guns from falling into the hands of people who should not have them. That means expanding the instant background check. It means doing away with the gun show loophole. It means addressing the strawman provision. I think there is a wide consensus to move forward in that direction.
After each mass shooting, pro-gun extremists always tell the nation that now is not the time to have the discussion about the ease of the ability to purchase deadly weapons in this country. They said it wasnt time after Sandy Hook. They said it wasnt time after Charleston, and they will say that it isnt time after Orlando, but if not now, when?
What the NRA and others never say is that in their view there will never be a good time. No one is talking about confiscating weapons or taking guns away, just ending the enabling of mass killers. Sen. Sanders was correct. There is a broad consensus on the steps that he outlined nationally. What is missing is Congressional Republicans with the guts to take action.
If the Republicans get booted out of the Congressional majority in November, it is a certainty that Democratic president and Congress would take long overdue steps on gun violence because this isnt political. Its national security.
I had some respect to Bernie for he was not pro gun control now after hearing this, I longer really respect him anymore, he is a cuck.
No longer.
I saw Sanders talking about how automatic weapons need to be banned. What a clueless moron he really is.
An illegal automatic weapon, no doubt.
The optic could only be made more inconvenient if the weapon was smuggled in by ISIS.
Even better if it was traced to Fast’n’Furious.
They're already banned in Paris and Brussels, n'est ce pas?
In all the hours of endless yammering, nobody has mentioned that the only person in the club with a weapon was the shooter (gun free zone).
Thank you, Bernie, for once again displaying the utter ignorance of the anti-gun fanatics, as well as confirming that the goal of the Left is a disarmed America.
Otherwise, GFY! MOLON LABE!
How to look like an even bigger fool. This!
NOPE not going to happen...guns are NOT the issue here...
ISLAMIC RADICAL TERRORISM is the issue here, and people need to be told the truth...
CNN reporting the shooter bought the weapons in the past few days. Given that it takes 5 months+ and $30,000 to buy a machine gun, it is clear this was NOT a machine gun. Or, if it was modified, was illegal.
But then the shooter didn’t follow any other laws, did he?
The ATF says he bought them at a gun store, legally, in the last few weeks. There goes the automatic weapons meme.
Obama wants shootings like this to happen. He is all about taking our guns. This is he and Hillary’s endgame.
The muslims will use more guns and he knows it. This is why he is letting so many in the country.
yeah, now he lost that.
Cause there were never any murders before guns.
Although the Hutus and Tutsis massacred half a million with machetes.
Romans did a nice job without guns
It is really hard to believe this guy has a head he thinks with on his shoulders?????
This political game of blaming this as some sort of problem which can be legislated away is both denial and encouraging more acts of terrorism.
The focus of this Islamic Terrorist attack should be how vulnerable we are and what an ineffective strategy our Government has to combat Terror. But then, there would have to be some blame and accountability.
Once again, politics is seemingly more important than the safety of the citizens.
Then the gun store broke the law.
How so?
So do you think that the continued importation of violence into the country and not allowing it to be dealt with is a way that leftists hope to use to have the sheep beg for the bad guns to go away?
