Donald Trump fired up the crazies in his state when he held a rally in Phoenix last weekend, Arizona Sen. John McCain said in a recent interview. During that appearance (and others last weekend), Trump was joined by the father of Jamiel Shaw, who was killed by an undocumented immigrant.
Trump has tapped into some anger in the state over the conditions at the border, McCain told The New Yorkers Ryan Lizza in an article published Thursday.
Its very bad, the Republican senator said. This performance with our friend out in Phoenix is very hurtful to me, McCain said. Because what he did was he fired up the crazies.
Trumps latest polling numbers would seem to suggest that his message is resonating with Republican voters.
McCain, a longtime supporter of comprehensive immigration reform as a member of the Senates Gang of Eight, noted his battles with the far right, very extreme element of his states party over the years on the issue.
McCain made reference to Trumps past support of Democratic candidates over the years, too.
Some of this stuff is going to come out: He gave more money to Democrats than Republicans, he had Hillary Clinton at his wedding, McCain said, referencing Trumps 2005 wedding to his current wife Melania at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida.
Now he galvanized them, McCain said, according to the article. Hes really got them activated.
The senator also made sure to mention that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, another Gang of Eight member running for president, backed away from the immigration approach that the group took in 2013.
You dont need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows, McCain remarked, referencing Bob Dylans Subterranean Homesick Blues.
McCain, a longtime friend of Senate colleague and Republican presidential candidate Lindsey Graham, praised the South Carolina senator for being one of the few in the party to blast the multibillionaires remarks.
In a Sunday interview on CNN, Graham called Trump a wrecking ball for the GOPs future, adding that Republicans need to reject this demagoguery or face the consequences.
Nice way to talk about your constituents there, Juan...
“McCain, a longtime friend of Senate colleague and Republican presidential candidate Lindsey Graham”
Delicately stated, Nick.
McPain has fired up the adult diapers industry.
I think this perfectly defines the term, “Old Coot”
Obviously. Thus McCain’s fired up denunciations.
Will either Bruce “Kaitlyn” Jenner or Bradley “Chelsea” Manning be in the running for first lady, I wonder?
Many Zonies will line up to piss in his grave Fonda style.
McAmnesty was stingingly rebuked by his party and hasn’t got over it. Go TRUMP!!
Yeah, all us whacko-birds and crazies who value the rule of law, our citizenship and our national sovereignty should just shut up and allow McCain and ¡Yeb! Bush turn the U.S.A. into North Mexico.
Just like Palin fired up the “crazies”, I’m sure.
The Crazies are coming for you, Johnny.
"Voters."
Yep. And we are use to him crapping himself everytime the people speak up against the elites.
Those treatments for dementia don’t seem to work, eh Juan?
McCain did so well against an unknown, radical with no experience.
Big misstep that will cost GOPe. Instead of hearing the anger and frustration of the vast middle, they choose to insult them.
Pretending to be anything other than a democrat can be excused as long as GOPe doesn’t infuriate everyone by their disgusting dismissal of very valid concerns regarding the future of this country.
This will insure another debacle and defeat.
Nothing Trump said was crazy. I’m sick of the politicians who are indistinguishable from funeral directors. In fact funeral directors show more personality.
F-—off McNut...
