Ted Cruz plans to run for president.
The Houston Chronicle broke the news just before midnight Saturday evening, citing senior advisers speaking on the condition of anonymity who said that Cruz, the Texas Tea Party Republican elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012, would pursue the presidency.
The announcement would make Cruz the first Republican to officially declare his candidacy.
Cruz will announced his candidacy at a convocation ceremony at Liberty University in Virginia, the Chronicle reported.
The senior advisers cited by the Chronicle said Cruz aims to raise some $40 to $50 million, and he will run as an unabashedly conservative candidate, in contrast to the mushy middle Republicans hes criticized in the past.
Cruz has strong support among the conservative base, as several high-profile polls have shown.
In a Drudge Report poll released at the beginning of February, Cruz took the No. 2 spot among likely presidential contenders, behind Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. In the 2015 Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll at the end of February, Cruz came in third behind Walker and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.
"Attacking" may be posting statistics, but I am concerned he couldn't win a higher percentage of the 2012 vote in deep red Texas than Mediocre Massachusetts Mitt.
Walker ran 7 points ahead of Romney in blue Wisconsin.

You posted the 2012 election stat before. I voted in 2012. My choices for President were essentially Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. Because of the redistricting fight, the Primary was in June.
The Senate race was an open 9 person primary and Ted Cruz, with at least two candidates with higher name ID (Lt. Gov David Dewhurst and ESPN Analyst Craig James).
Those are different races and you are being purposely disingenuous.
Where was Cruz in relationship to Dewhurst at the first of that long race?
Dewhurst is gone now. Cruz is senator.

There's one thing that I'm sure will qualify as an attack by some, though I think it has merit: eligibility.
He was born outside the US [Canada] while his father was still a Cuban citizen… so how does he qualify?
(Note that citing a statute, any statute, passed by congress is to assert that he is a naturalized citizen as the only citizenship power delegated by the constitution to the congress is that of establishing a uniform rule of naturalization [Art 1, Sec 8, Clause 4].)
(Also, note that the 14th Amendment is not applicable: being born in Canada, he was not in the jurisdiction of the United states; moreover, it does not delegate any new powers to the congress.)
CRUZ.
Walker is not Cruz. Walker is a compromise. Not interested.

You say the 14th gives Congress no additional powers. I would direct you to read section 5:
“Section 5. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.”

Many of us will be working to elect Senator Cruz to President Cruz. Thus reviving America to its rightful place as the leader of the FREE and the home of the brave. It is past time we stood up to commie PC speech code B.S.
And in Texas we have a Lt. Governor Mr. Patric that I think would make a very good Senator to sit in Mr. Ctuz’s newly vacated Senate seat. And he WILL support President Cruz, past history not withstanding.

Cruz control 2016: competence in command!
In the case of Mr. Cruz, he cannot claim the sort of anchor-baby citizenship* that the invaders can, by accident of location of his birth, and his father was not a US citizen — I think he's a good statesman, but I'm not willing to weaken/disregard the Constitution because it suits my whims. The Constitution must be respected, especially when it is inconvenient, elsewise it means nothing.
* -- I believe this form of naturalization at/by birth is purposely portrayed as natural born

So, again, no new powers were assigned to congress with respect to citizenship.
Glad to see a much better field shaping up this time around. I would be super excited about Cruz, happy with Walker and while not excited would be willing to vote for Rubio so this is a much better field than last time around.
Yes it is, and even though none of the candidates are going to be 100% to our liking - any of those you mentioned would be head and shoulders above what we now have squatting in the WH.
I agree, I think everyone should get behind Cruz, however, there are quite a few people here who only want Walker, you’ll have to convince them.
