AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Public health interests prevailed over warnings that personal freedoms are being eroded as the Maine House gave its final approval to a bill to ban smoking in bars and taverns.

Representatives' 95-47 enactment vote sent the measure to the Senate and put Maine a step closer to joining California and Delaware in imposing statewide bans on smoking in bars. New York's ban starts in July, and Connecticut's newly enacted ban on smoking in bars takes effect next April.

and the same majority that are supporting these bans

Since you seem to be in the know - how many of these bans were put to a vote of the people and how many were instituted by a government agency of one type or another?

If you don't like the smoke there, start your own smoke free bar or drink at a smoke free restaruant.

I believe that the free market would eventually ban tobacco from restaruants. I don't think gov't should do so, except that the argument for protecting employees from SHS is compelling when bars and restaurants are the only business that is exempt.

However, my POV is moot. The politicians are on a roll here and its not going to be stopped unless the smokers could change their image.

So, far the smokers on this page are not in any compromising mood and the consequence of that is they are going to get killed in the poliical field.

Great! Perfect! I love you and everyone you care about. I think the fire up is more positive. Like a thumb's up or a victory sign. Gee now I need to see if I can transfer to my desk top and print it to get a flag and tag for my bright yellow truck.

They aren't nazis, nor fascists. They are libertarians and anarchists, the most totalitarian societies imaginable.

Its not fine with me but inconsiderate smokers

Funny, but your posts always call to mind Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man.

Maybe that's the problem.

Let's try this:

Not about your marriage to the word "inconsiderate."

About private property rights.

You've already admitted that argument doesn't hold water.
Trying to get the subject changed?

RE: 'little minded beliefs'

In your case, I think she's referring to the actual pea-sized physicality of your brain as having affected your belief structure.

If so(it's only conjecture),I think she may be on to something.

Do you realize that one of the most wanted items by the troops in Iraq was cigarettes?

I thougt it was minnie pads and wet wipes.

Do you realize that smoking is banned in boot camp ? Even the military doesn't want smokers.

This majority in ME was about the same in CT. I'm assuming that these two states votes are reflective of the population in that CT had a poll at the same time showing support and that reps are not going to stick there heads out when they don't have to.

The argument that all employees should have the same health laws apply is the one I agree with. Either a smoking ban in the work place should apply to all employees or no employees.

Its inconsistant to apply them to one group and not the other.

The government has not modified my behavior in the least. I continue to smoke at will. I speed, I run red lights, I smoke weed and drink while driving, I jaywalk.

I obey almost nothing that is Malum Prohibitum and obey all laws that are Malum in se.

Life is not long enough to refrain from doing things just because you and a gang of pecksniffs in the statehouse disapprove.

just right click over the image and select "save as.." and tell it where you want to save it to. Then you could just open it up and print it. If you want a big version I could probably make it bigger and send it to you privately.

Still trying to change the subject.
The argument that you have already conceded is the one about whether SHS (ETS) is harmful.
