Funny Country Song Titles
radio-info.com Boston board ^ | 01/20/06 | raccoonradio

We were talking on a radio discussion board about HD radio; a Boston country station announced that they will feature a classic country channel on it (High Definition radio, which is available but expensive for now, allows several sub-channels to be placed on broadcast frequencies). Anyway, I started to rattle off some funny country song titles. Join in!

Actual Country Song Titles:

Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off--Joe Nichols

Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox If I Die--Joe Diffie

Dropkick Me Jesus Through the Goalposts of Life--Bobby Bare

Here's A Quarter--Call Someone Who Cares--Travis Tritt

I'm A People--George Jones

Fax Me A Beer--Hank Williams, Jr.

The One on the Left is On The Right--Johnny Cash

A Boy Named Sue--ditto (writer: Shel Silverstein)

She's Got A Butt Bigger Than The Beatles (spoof of "They Got A Love Bigger than the Beatles)--Cletus T. Judd

"How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away"--Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks

"If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me"--Bellamy Bros.

Kinky Friedman's "A-H From El Paso"; "Ride Em Jewboy"; "They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore"; "Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed"

Note that the song involved is usually just as funny as the title, if not more so. I guess we can expand it to "country novelty songs" in general, not just country songs with
funny titles.

Buffet also does "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw", which was featured in the 1991 William Hurt movie The Doctor, IIRC.

Yeah, took me to a link on amazon.com to his album Mississippi Squirrel Revival. One review of it said: "The only songs which some might not like is "Joggin" and "I'm Kissin' You Goodbye". The reasons are because "Joggin" is a satire on excercise freaks and the latter is a run of the mill love ballad which might disgust some with the lyric "get your tongue outta my mouth 'cause I'm Kissin' You Goodbye"...i like it because it's pure low-brow novelty that doesn't mean anything other than being odd...which is what a real novelty song is anyway."

"My Uncle Used To Love Me, But She Died", "Chug-a-lug"- Roger Miller

"Wildwood Weed" - Jim Stafford

Most songs by Ray Stevens

There was one titled "Does Your Chewing Gum Loose It's Flavor On The Bedpost Overnight", but I can't remember who did it.

"Convoy" - C. W. McCall

Another one I can't remember who did - "If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body, Would You Hold It Against Me".

Roger Miller's catalog had a LOT of funny songs. He also had a wry wit. One of his quotes: "The human mind is a wonderful thing, it starts working from before you're born and doesn't stop till you sit down to write a song"

"You're the Reason Our Kids are Ugly" -- Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn

I think Loretta throws in a line at the very end that Conway hadn't heard before, based on his reaction to it...
