A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Mama_Bear, dansangel, dutchess, Aquamarine ~

Welcome to a Christmas Contest

There will be SEVEN prizes!!
P.S. Six are spoken for.
1
2
3
A 2004 Republican National Committee Wall Calendar, Each Page Containing a Beautiful Photograph of Our President!
4
5
6
A 2004 Quilt Engangement Calendar!!

It's about time we give Christmas tips to the hostesses around here.   Each of the five regular hostesses -- Billie, Mama_bear, Dansangel, Dutchess, and Aquamarine -- will receive one of the gifts pictured above (unless they prefer of course not to trust an erratic judge like me with their snail mail address, hee hee!).

But hmm, they've all been so good this year.  Who should get which gift??  Play Santa the best and divvy up the gifts and you'll win a special prize! And yes hostesses *are* qualified to enter the contest win the surprise gift too. Of course, a holiday contest thread wouldn't be complete without silly rules, so here are mine:

THE RULES

You know how wonderful our hostesses are
And you know how hard they work.
So pony up your Christmas tip
And don't be a stingy jerk.

Above you see six pictured toys
And your only job is a piece of cake:
Write a poem of that explains
Which gift each hostess should take.

Explain in your poem -- which need not rhyme
Why which hostess should get which toy.
If your poem is the best you'll win for yourself
A surprise which will bring much joy.

To do well in this contest it will help to have read
Some of the threads of this year.
So you'll know, e.g., which hostess loves quilts
And whose hot for George W. in flight gear.

But if you don't know, that's no excuse
Not to offer a poem of praise.
It's Christmas time and well we all know
How much our hostesses deserve a raise.

As you can see from this poem my standards are low
Regarding both meter and rhyme,
But one key to winning is to be sure to enter
By 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

They've worked so hard all year long
And given you color, and graphics, and fun, and great joy.
Please help play Santa for our lovely sistahs
And you'll win a precious toy!

Now some of you may see six gifts
And think that I'm the sixth
But guess again and think real hard
About who else should be on your list!

There's another who appears more often
And delights you with his prose
He should get a gift too and which one
You'll also decide in your lovely poem.

Good luck and have fun and my final advice
Is go for it and be sincere
It's the thought that counts, not how "good" your poem
Just share with us your good cheer!

Six lovely Hostesses...sitting in a row
Can make Wolfie's eyes... turn into an amber glow

Awwww.....that is such a sweet poem.

Lori with her specialness...

Hmmmmm....."specialness"? That's nice, but could you be a bit more specific? LOL! ;-)

I'm kidding.....I am absolutely thrilled to be special in Wolfie's amber eyes. You're a sweetheart.

I always wondered about the origin of the "12 Days of Christmas".....did some go-ogling & found out the following:

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.

It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church.

Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit:

Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and
Self Control.

The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol...so pass it on if you wish.

My thank you is *very* late since I am just recovering from my trip to FL.

This thread was a blast and I can see many others had a great time with it as well. (((((Freezie)))))), you are the "Queen of Quirk" (to borrow from Billie's apt description of your "quirky" threads!)

Love and ((((((HUGS)))))) to you all - I miss you and will drop back in when I can wrestle Mom's computer from .45MAN - LOL!

I've just finished reading all the comments from Friday's Christmas Contest thread, and wanted to thank you all for the wonderful poems and posts you wrote, and for the way you support and participate in our Finest threads. You are all the best of FR, and your friendship means so much to the six of us who have been presenting these daily threads.

I made note of a few posts, which I thank you for in particular:

Pippin, from your poem at post #62:
Billie is sweet a real cow girl Though she wears no boots and has no hat But this Texas belle loves Dubya and is really talented too! I think you should send her something that’ll really suit you see, Please send the RNC calendar to our own Billie!

The Mayor at Post #90: Thank you for being our gallant defender! :)
Well, skinny, I have read all the abuse of our ladies I can handle. For you this year (picture of a lump of coal).

Free, you had so many great posts and poems, I can't even begin to repost them all! Just let me thank you again for all the fun you have provided all year long! And today's generous gifts, which were many!

jwfiv, as usual, your poem at #107 couldn't have been any better! I love the way you express yourself, and always have. (but you know that) :)

Aqua, way to go - see, you wrote a poem! :) (Post #52)There's just no end to your talents!

dixie, I am so impressed with your poem! Love it all, and thank you for the verse for me:
Billie, who starrted it all,
someone in our eyes stands very tall.
Like fellow Texan and Top Gun
for her is perfect doll!

.45Man, loved this re dansy's first poem (which I did get to respond to Friday morning):
Well guess what, she's not
She's got her bush suit in a favorite spot.
In a place where even I am not allowed to go!
So there you are, and now you know!!

Wolfie, Post #173: this graphic was the cutest! (Still trying to figure out how I can fit you under my tree.) :)

Julie!Love your 12SEVEN days of Christmas at post #201!

Dutchess, #220 - cute poem!("tree'd" LOL - whatever it takes to rhyme!)

Wolfie again: :*
Six lovely Hostesses...sitting in a row
Can make Wolfie's eyes... turn into an amber glow
Billie with her flashing looks... Freezie with her wit.....
...and deep down in is wolfish heart...
he truly loves them all.

Free, thank you again for such a fun thread Friday - wish I could have been here 'then', but since I couldn't, I wanted to tell you now: "Ya Done Good, kiddo!"
