Rome's Challenge: Why do Protestants Keep Sunday? (Its not in the Bible, she changed it and wants her credit)

Most Christians assume that Sunday is the biblically approved day of worship. The Roman catholic church protests that it transferred Christian worship from the biblical Sabbath (Saturday) to Sunday, and that to try to argue that the change was made in the Bible is both dishonest and a denial of Catholic authority. If Protestantism wants to base its teachings only on the Bible, it should worship on Saturday.

Probably the best defense I have ever read on the Bible Sabbath, the 7th day and it's written by Roman Catholics. Awesome. Not a single text showing the Sabbath was ever changed. She changed it because she claims the authority to change it and says "Seventh day Adventists" are the only one who follow the Bible. Otherwise.....you follow her. Wow.....this is good theology too.

I know, I know but the article is just so awesome. So sarcastic and full of brutal frank truth. She really nails the protestants and tears them to shreds. I have never read anything like it. I will enjoy quoting her here too as I respond.

She is brutal to Sunday keeping Protestants who think Sunday keeping is in the Bible. Wow!

Catholics can go to a Saturday evening vigil Mass if this is a problem for them.

God the Son changed it by his 8th day resurrection.
There is a whole “school” of 8th Day Theology.
So, no the RC church didn’t “invent” it and modern-day iconoclasm is evil.

the Bible has many references in the Old Testament concerning the eighth day, which foretold the coming of the new form of worship instituted for the Eighth Day - the Lord's Day. Revelation is about this Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, which is made explicit in Rev.1:10. "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet . . . "

Protestants don't have the most explicit prophecy of this change of worship from the 7th to the 8th day, which is the story of Hanukkah in Maccabees. The oil last for 8 days. There's a Jewish menorah that's quite commonly seen in celebration of Hanukkah - a regular one with seven candles and then one basically grafted on the right side. This is the Church's understanding of Hanukkah - it foretold the 8th day worship.

There's clear scriptural warrant for the Lord's Day.

Covered in many arenas.

Rome had a Sun God, among many others, that they worshipped on Sundays-
The POLITICAL move, as seamless as possible for controlling the masses, was to simply adopt this new God Thing and make the same Sun-day the worship day.

The Little Hat Tribe have kept the faith over the centuries-
and they have been through some shiiite for it all.
Sabbath is the 7th day, Saturday.
Kudos for them.

and Sunday Church Leaders around the country closed up shop for ChiComWuHu cuz a Goobermint-of-Men told them to.
and you wonder why churches are empty?

Genesis 2:1-3 KJV

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

It is just being treated as a holy day and thus man worships on that day. Simple. Why make a case for or against it. Is the next attack on Christmas day or the day of the death of Christ in April?

She's a hypocrite because the Catholic religion kept worship on Sundays itself.

No Catholic is in any position to condemn others for what they themselves have done and still do, although that never stopped them before from trying.

Yeah, God took the Sabbath pretty seriously. He sanctified in Genesis, Jesus said “for man”, Daniel even predicted a great apostate power would seek to change it....Daniel 7:25.

John saw it in Revelation, God is the Lord and he calls the seventh day Sabbath “My holy day” so that makes the Lord’s day the Seventh day Sabbath.

I respect Rome, none if this 8th day fantasy, there are only 7 days in a week. In fact, in her catechism, she even changed it from the 4th to the 3rd commandment.

The rest is just noise and Rome knows it’s noise. They twist, turn, invent, and yet Jesus said...NOT ONE JOT OR TITTLE shall change from the law until heaven and earth pass away.

I Love this article by the Catholics. She looks at ever verse in the New Testament that deals with the first day and shows how ridiculous the Protestant case is. One man said Protestants are like Children who ran away from their Mother and keep a picture of her..(Sunday) in his pocket.

This is going to be a huge issue in the end too. Sunday is the “Mark” of her authority. And Sunday is being exalted more and more for climate change day off and the Pope is huge on making Sunday a legal “holi day”.....

No thank you. I roll with Jesus and his law......it’s about to get real too.

Mark 2:27

New King James Version
“And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.”

I believe Jesus was saying here that the Sabbath is important to remember and keep holy. But, I don’t think God is concerned with a Saturday or a Sunday, as long as we’re keeping one day of the week holy and set aside for Him and our rest and recovery.

We can discuss the first day of the week according to the Gregorian calendar and how Mosaic Law established the Sabbath and how Jesus fulfilled the law and is the Word of God.

But, let’s not let an argument over Saturday vs. Sunday come between brothers and sisters in Christ. Christianity shouldn’t be a “gotcha” game, unless we mean we “gotcha” into the fold of Christ.

The 7th Day groups worship the Day of Rest when God finished his work!

Those who worship on Sunday gather in rememberance of The Resurrection of Christ overcoming Death, absolving us of sin by his sacrifice and rose from the dead.

His death also freed us from the Old Law as said in Jeremiah
Jer 31:31

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:

But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Jer 31:34
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

This is the New Covenant St Paul constantly talked about.

Keep Sunday? Not so! Those who worship on Saturday keep “the day”.
Those who gather on Sunday honor THE RESURRECTION, not the day.

Actually, she’s not a hyprocrit. She’s admitting She changed the day. She claims it’s her authority since she stands above scripture. What she is doing is looking at Protestants, who claim to follow the Bible and asking......why aren’t you following the Bible when it comes to the Sabbath? You are following US!

I Like that. She’s honest. Not like Protestants who twist, invent, turn scripture to try and make a Bible case for Sunday. It’s ludicrious. Rome is honest here.

There are reams and reams of argument on this. Many books. This is not a new inquiry, at all.

Westminster Confession, easily found free on line, has a detailed defense of a Sunday “sabbath.”

Colossians 2:8-23 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.

If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

Except there’s not text for that change. That’s Rome’s point. Jesus said NOT ONE JOT OR TITTLE would change. Rome is smart here. You have invented something without a text. Rome is calling you out.

There is no change of the weekly holi day in scripture. Only God can make something holy. Sorry, you can’t. Sunday is no more holy then my golf club. The Sabbath was made holy at creation. It was MADE and you cant unmake what God made......no matter who or how many claim to. And Rome knows this.
