Islam and Orthodox Christianity Have the Same Values, Putin Says
Moscow Times ^ | Nov 22 2019

Orthodox Christianity and Islam are based on the same fundamental values, President Vladimir Putin said in an address to a religious conference in Kyrgyzstan.

The conference, titled "Orthodoxy and Islam — Religions of Peace," aimed to promote interethnic and interreligious dialogue between Russia and Kyrgyzstan.

"Islam and Orthodox Christianity, just like other world religions, are based on fundamental humanistic values that are of enduring importance — on mercy and love for one’s near, justice and respect for human beings," the state-run TASS news agency quoted Putin as saying Thursday.

The address, which was read out to the conference by Russian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nikolai Udovichenko, pushed for cooperation between government agencies and religious organizations to bolster "civil peace and accord" between the two countries.

The Russian president added that it is "essential" to preserve these ties for future generations and to “[enhance] the role of religious organizations in protecting and promoting spiritual, moral and family values.”

Islam is Russia’s second-largest religion behind Orthodox Christianity and its Muslim population is expected to more than double in the next 15 years. The majority of Kyrgyzstan's population is Muslim.

there are SO many sections of their koran that teach hatred or contempt or just simply subjugation of Christians and Jews
and many of the imams choose to preach from those parts …

And they should, since that is the fundamentals of the religion as laid out in the Medina chapters that supersede and abrogate the earlier more tolerant Mecca chapters. -Tom

Mohammed changed from a possibly pretty good guy to a savage hate monger beast when he became a sand pirate mercenary — it’s so very very tragic

I agree with you.

In Mecca he was a nice guy, but changed and when he got to Medina with Abu Bakr, he became no more Mr. Nice Guy, kill anyone who wont' convert to Islam and stands against us, that became the rule-and it is that way to this day. - Tom

There’s a book called “The 23 Years” written by Persian who was imprisoned by both the last Shah & the current radical regime. He divides Mohammed’s mission roughly into halves. The first 11 years his message and rhetoric was sort of an Arab Judaism or Gnostic Christian. After he gets a “state” & an “army” the remaining 12 years (or so!)he’s just another bloodthirsty Dark Age warband leader who ends up being phenomenally successful. Learns the wrong lessons from the success.

Interesting book, the author hoped to inspire Muslims to concentrate on the first 11 years.

Muslims can't do that without becoming heretics.

Allah gets HIS message to His Messenger Muhammad, via an angel, and when Muhammad went to Medina, he had only converted about 150 people in the previous 13 years in Mecca.
Allah has Muhammad get the sword out in Medina to get more converts and that supercedes whatever he was doing in Mecca. - Tom

I know all that, so did the author of the book. He was a born & raised Muslim. Call it a heroic & obscure case for reform. Any way you have to read the book!

I don't believe you can reform Islam because Allah has a Messenger Muhammad, who is the perfect man to be imitated.

Muhammad's interpretation of Islam is what counts - not mine or yours or some author who wants to change the fundamentals of Islam. -Tom

I think you’re right but read the book.

I believe the author died in an Islamic Prison cell which kind of proves your point.

I have seen the “nice” Muslims turn full Jihad at the drop of a Farwah. You are playing with fire.

If one ever asks you to choose islam, stall and run, because if you say no they have to kill you.

There’s something else going on —?

Russia has a higher percentage of Moslems than the U.S., but U.S. numbers are rising ...

Islam in Russia is the nation's second most widely professed religion. According to a nationwide survey conducted in 2012,[2] Muslims in Russia numbered 9,400,000 or 6.5% of the total population. However, the populations of two federal subjects with Islamic majorities were not surveyed due to social unrest, which together had a population of nearly 2 million, namely Chechnya and Ingushetia,[2] thus the total number of Muslims may be larger.

Around 30 percent of the Russian population will practice Islam within the next 15 years, Russia’s grand mufti has predicted, citing demographic trends.

Russia’s Muslim-majority regions, including republics in the North Caucasus and the republic of Tatarstan, are known to have the highest birth rates in the country, reflecting similar trends worldwide. Various estimates place the current Muslim population in Russia at between 14 million and 20 million people, or between 10 to 14 percent of Russia’s total population of 146.8 million in 2018.

Archpriest Dmitry Smirnov, an official in Russia’s Orthodox Church, agreed with Gainutdin’s forecast and predicted that “there won’t be any Russians left in 2050.” “It’s too late,” he told the Govorit Moskva radio station when asked if the demographic trend could be reversed.

Russia is 20% Muslim. What do you expect him to say on a matter? Take it as an advise for Muslims to act Christian.

Probably not: Orthodox Christianity and Islam are based on identical humanistic values, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his address to the participants in the conference titled Orthodox Christianity and Islam.

If you are to learn Islam properly there are some humanism to it. The way it is universally practiced is another matter and you might reasonably argue it is an imprescriptible part of the whole ideology.
Anyway, you can’t expect a responsible World leader to condemn Islam as a whole.
And what Putin said is much less scandalous than Bush’s and Obama’s religion of peace remarks which are totally laughable.
Islam indeed has a sort of 10 commandments like not to kill or steal so his comments has truth to it as well.

Sure, you should not condemn it (Islam), and you correctly wrote that there are some humanism to it. But, to say that it is based on identical humanistic values is something else.
