Agreed. They included every claim they could which is somewhat puzzling. What is their motive for the ones where the alleged abuser is dead? At first I thought it may have been actioned by the state in order to remove tax exempt status. But many of the claims will probably not make it to trial so what are they (law firm) doing? You can’t bring other allegations to support a particular specific case that is not related. Unless some of Muellers buddies are joining in on another witch hunt.
They do not preclude each other.
Just because the rule of law is (supposed to be) *innocent until proved guilty*, doesn't mean that it's a fact or that you are wrong about your suspicions. Or that you can't have them.
You can be as certain as anything that a person is guilty, but the trial still must be conducted with that presumption of innocence.
Sadly, it means that too often a guilty person walks free because beyond reasonable doubt cannot be established, but the worst would be condemning an innocent man.
Besides, they don't escape GOD'S judgment, even if they (think they) get away with it here.
Better you say it than one of us.
If we said that, we’d be labeled as *anti-Catholic*, and *haters*.
You can get away with it being Catholic.
OTOH, there are likely some who never got caught, so it balances out.
And the fact that some may be dead does not make the allegations not credible or substantiated.
And likely they served only briefly cause word of what they were doing got out and they were protected by being moved around, which is the real atrocity in the whole issue.
Somehow Catholics keep focusing on only the numbers, trying to downplay the seriousness of what happened and making if sound like it wasn’t so bad. What the bigger problem is as it it could be, is the protection the Catholic hierarchy gave those priests it kept hearing reports about.
We keep telling you all Catholics that and somehow it keeps falling on deaf ears.
I don’t believe in innocent till proven guilty. It can be clear someone committed a crime and they can be found not guilty by and ignorant or racist jury.
Yes, it is everywhere but it has not been forever. This is a result of homosexual infiltration by the Communists starting in the 20’s and the 30’s.
Air it out, help the victims, defrock and punish the bad...not the innocent...sinners in Christ’s Church are expected but evildoer’s need prison time. My church needs only holy and repentant priests.
I personally don’t adhere to that but the justice system in this country is obligated to function that way for the protection of the people.
Not that it works so great, mind you.
I agree. You can know someone is guilty as sin, but in a court of law, it must be proved beyond a reasonable doubt.
Having the Pope Francis arrested would be a relief to the long-suffering Catholics world-wide.
I am Catholic/Christian and share your position. God Bless.
Well the TRUTH needs to be told.
I’ve made comments on all sorts of religious threads, some positive, some negative.
Unless it’s a worship thread, it’s open for business.
The truth is the truth no matter who says it.
Thank you.
Apples and oranges. Teachers get caught and sentenced. They don't have an organization which can protect them the way the RCC does. Watch the movie "Spotlight" based on true events in which the Boston Globe broke open stories of molestation. The Church used every dirty trick in the book to evade justice and protect their corruption.
The victims stories were the saddest. "I didn't just lose my innocence but I lost my faith". They felt like they could never go into a church again. That is the evil these cases cause.
Everybody getting in on the payoff before the Church runs out of money.
You’re probably right.
It’d also be an act of war, so not very likely to happen.
Arresting the bishops and cardinals would be a great start though, especially if we could just catch the guilty ones before they flee.
Not entirely sure how we could make it happen and deal with the fallout, but the fallout HAS to be better than the current situation!
Got to start somewhere.
