Everybody getting in on the payoff before the Church runs out of money. #1 The RCC will never run out of money.
#2 The behavior of this law firm makes no sense from a legal aspect. If anything it weakens any legal case they have. I still wonder if the state is not involved for the express purpose of revoking tax status. That's the only thing that makes sense.
