Why Are Christian Women Watching 'Fifty Shades Darker'?

The unavoidable truth is that many are becoming desensitized. When the Holy Spirit no longer fills hearts and minds with a passion for purity and holiness, there is a general lack of conviction.

Compromise in this area can be well-illustrated through a story I heard years ago.

Eskimos in the barren North often kill wolves by taking a razor-sharp knife and dipping it in blood. They allow the blood to freeze to the blade. Then they bury the handle of the knife in the snow with the blade exposed. As the wolf begins to lick the blade, his tongue becomes numb and desensitized due to the cold. As he continues, his tongue begins to bleed, and he licks even faster—unaware that he is consuming his own blood and slowly killing himself.

Within time, the Eskimos return and bring the dead animal home. In the same way, the enemy numbs us through compromise. Within time, we, like the wolves, don't realize that we are dying—dying spiritually. The enemy desensitizes us until we are numb to the things of God.

I guess my question which may be off topic is why are women marching against Trump and calling him a pervert and then buy this stuff off the shelves?

Unam Sanctam sure made it look like the pope was attempting to be a world king.

Same reason they read romance. Safe porn, everybody likes to be titillated, so they draw a line in the sand and define the level they’re willing to get to that is acceptable.

Could be the result of something that's lacking or broken in their marriage. It won't lead to happiness but they use it as a coping mechanism for what ever that is lacking, usually intimacy.

I agree.

It's easier to delve into a fantasy land to deal with your problems than to face them.

That said, for anyone who thinks I'm condoning it. I'm not. I just recognize one of the roots of the problem.

Even the Bible depicts bad things like adultery. If you are serious about avoiding anything that contains depictions of immoral behavior, you’d have to toss out your Bible. Then go live in a cave. But then, our own minds are full of sin and you can’t escape yourself.

You seem to miss the point.

I doubt anyone is reading Scripture for the torrid sex scenes for entertainment.

You might as well try to justify men watching porn cause after all, the Bible mentions nakedness and sex.

That’s true, but I have seen documentaries which feature Alaskan natives, who DO use the word, Eskimo. When my husband, an Indian, saw that, he was surprised, but nonetheless, it is done. (And to forestall the next argument, I know a lot of genuine “Native Americans”, and unless they’re writing a book or making a political speech, they refer to themselves as Indians)

“Unam Sanctam sure made it look like the pope was attempting to be a world king.”

You sure make it look like you can’t make a relevant comment.

The whole purpose of the TV and movie producers is to destroy our moral values, with the goal in mind of eliminating all influence that Christianity/Judaism has on our actions.

I agree, and unfortunately, they’ve outdone themselves.

“And then there’s those romance novels, which are just as bad to women as porn is to men.”

But partaking of porn involves looking at real people, participating in real people sinning, participating in some % of real people being exploited by contributing to the general demand for porn. Not saying that the bodice rippers are healthy by comparison or whatever. I just don’t see it as near as terrible for culture.

exactly why I won’t get near those books/movies. Can’t comprehend that mindset at all. There are much better ways to spell sexy.

I KNOW, right?

I read an abridged and commentary version of the books because... well, to be honest, because I wanted a laugh at how terrible they were. (And there are some funny things, like the Greys living in a carbon copy of Elvis’s mansion in Graceland.)

But it stopped being funny pretty quickly, around the point where Grey literally raped and beat Ana for the second time. The movies made it look consensual; in the books it’s anything but.

I don’t have a problem with porn really. It has always been. But these books were apparently horribly shoddily written, so I would hate them for
That alone but they are also
Supposed To be about S&M which is about the least interesting kind of sex to me. Not into it.

I don’t disagree with you in the least.

One of the problems is that Christians and Christian men don’t seem to have any idea how to be manly and a protector and an alpha male.

Christian men are equated with being weak and
Caspar Milquetoast types.

I suppose an example would be Donald Trump type men. Men who take a stand, fight for what they believe in, don’t take *No* for an answer, won’t compromise their values, do what they say, instead of someone who is basically a pacifist.

The turning the other cheek teaching has been misused to create a whole generation of men who don’t or won’t fight back when it’s necessary.

Women want to feel protected and pursued and don’t get that from men who compromise everything.

My question is how many women that say could never vote for Trump because of “how he treats women” find the Gray character sexy and attractive. I know a few.

The hypocrisy is staggering.
