Why I Have Decided to Leave the Catholic Church
timstaples.com ^ | April 1, 2016 | Tim Staples

Posted on 04/01/2016 12:41:08 PM PDT by Berlin_Freeper

I am letting you be among the first to know. It is true. I am leaving the Catholic Church. I want you to know that this has not been a decision made in haste or without serious and intense research and consideration. But I can no longer remain in a church that I no longer believe in.

Let me explain.

I will be writing more about this soon, but for now let me just say there are five main reasons why I am leaving the Catholic Church:

1. I believe the sole rule of faith for Christians has to be Scripture. The Holy Bible is the only unchanging and definitive word of God that a Christian can build his or her life upon. Everything else, including the Catholic claims to authority, in the end, amount to ever-changing and ultimately sinking sand.

2. I believe works or any sense of salvific cooperation with God’s grace as constitutive to a Christian’s eternal life is unbiblical. “… not of works” (cf. Eph. 2:8-9) means not of works.

3. The idea of Mary and the saints being involved in the salvation of a Christian is tantamount to a denial of the sufficiency of Christ’s redeeming work on Calvary’s cross.

4. #3 can also be said of Purgatory, the “sacrifice” of the Mass, the Catholic view of salvation/justification, and more. These and more of the elements of Catholic teaching result in a denial of the sufficiency of the sacrifice of Christ. More to follow in a more detailed post.

5. What Catholics call the “veneration” of Mary and the saints is actually idolatry.

These are just for starters here. Many of you know that for the last 28 years I have defended the above teachings and more from the Catholic Church. I can no longer do so in clear conscience.

And by the way, just so you know…

Both statements mean the same thing, nothing happened if it isn't in scripture and scripture alone....what's the difference...

you claimed that the Immaculate Conception and Assumption didn't happen because they weren't mentioned in scripture.....sheesh.

Rome claims that the Immaculate Conception and Assumption DID happen without a single one of them being mentioned in scripture...

What POWER Rome has over it's members!

Stroke of the pen; law of the land.

Kinda cool!

If you did not have the Bible, how would you even know that Christ existed????

Silly boy!

If you actually KNEW the 'bible that Rome gave us' you would remember this:

John 5:39
You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me

This was WRITTEN concerning the other 'scripture' that the JEWS compiled; LONG before Rome was conjured up!

Oh, poorly catechized!!

Luke 16:19-31

19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Oh Arrogant Catholic!!!

How it's written:

Luke 19:39-40
And some of the Pharisees, from amongst the multitude, said to him: Master, rebuke thy disciples.
To whom he said: I say to you, that if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.

The way TC says it:

I say to you, that if ROME does not get the message out; the world will NEVER hear of Me.

Ah... silly me. I should have just believed what a man-made cult told me about what God's word says instead of being able to read and discern it myself with guidance from the Holy Spirit. I'm sorry. ;D Let me go find some dude in a dress and have some incense wafted over me. Maybe that guy in a white dress, pointy cap and red shoes can help?

Roman Catholicism, in my opinion, needs to reconcile some things like CCC 969's claim, contrary to the Scripture that I'm being reminded was the result of the Roman Catholic Church, that Mary is a mediatrix. 1 Timothy 2:5 says there's only one -- Christ Jesus. Yet, the RCC teaches Mary has salvific qualities, mediates and provides grace. After they deal with that born of hell blasphemy CCC issue, they need to move on to CCC 841 and figure out which "God" Catholics worship. If they "adore" the same "God" as Muslims, then they're worshipping a false god -- Satan -- just like the Muslims do.

The RCC is broken. Has been. Were it not for God's grace in the Reformation, there's no telling what worse filth we would see propagated.

OH, Dude... you're right. Silly Prot me!

:D You know, that dude in the pointy hat, white dress and red shoes IS a snappy dresser. Well, for some, maybe.

Funny that the scriptures provided so graciously to us by the Roman Catholic Church has nothing in there about the favorite dogmas! You'd THINK since they wrote the book, that stuff would have been put in! Somebody better talk to the editorial staff.....

I think someone's going to get fired. On a stake.

God used the Catholic church to spread and protect the word of God throughout the ages. Could He have done it differently??....of course, but He didn't If you did not have the Bible, how would you even know that Christ existed????

And based on Catholic reasoning, since He COULD have done it differently, we can claim He did and teach it as truth. After all, then it would fall in the category of *tradition*, right?

God spread His word in spite of the Catholic church, not because of it.

Y'all seem to forget that the OT existed LONG before Catholicism came along, proof positive that He did not use or need to use the RCC to accomplish His plan for redemption.

Couldn’t see that one coming.

The Catholic church is imploding around them and yet still Catholics think everything is going to work out just fine. Kind of like people trying to keep the Titanic afloat by hanging onto it and treading water.

Gotta give them credit for tenacity.

Too bad it wasn’t focused on Christ instead of a religious organization. What God couldn’t do with commitment like that.

Revelation 17: 1Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls came and told me, “Come, I will show you how the notorious prostitute who sits on many waters will be judged. [ISV]

1 And there came one of the seven angels, who had the seven vials, and spoke with me, saying: Come, I will shew thee the condemnation of the great harlot, who sitteth upon many waters, 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication; and they who inhabit the earth, have been made drunk with the whine of her whoredom. 3 And he took me away in spirit into the desert. And I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was clothed round about with purple and scarlet, and gilt with gold, and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand, full of the abomination and filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written: A mystery; Babylon the great, the mother of the fornications, and the abominations [DRB]

Rev 17: 9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. ... 15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. ... 18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.[KJV]

There is no scriptural support for the immaculate conception as you and all Catholics have been told. If I’m counting right that’s four falsehoods for you. You been to confession yet? You’re tracking up mortal sins as defined per Catholicism.

...private confessions were introduced by Irish priests in the 500s, before that you had to spill your guts to the entire assembly.

That is/was for those that follow Catholicism, not those that follow Christianity and Jesus.

Jesus did away with the need to go to a priest when the veil in the temple was torn in two from the top down at his crucifixion.

Christians since that time have had the privilege of going to the Throne of Grace and personally confess their sins to God through Jesus. Hebrews 4:16

Hebrews 4:16
King James Version (KJV)

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
