Well to be a bit technical; it’s nine commandment plus a statement.

” Imagine how radically different Western history might have been if the Ten Commandments went something like this:”

She’s playing at being Mohmmed now, rewriting the Bible as she sees fit.

What bunk.

This article is a joke. I'll bet the author has never read the Bible. The website is also a joke. The next article listed is: “From wet T-shirts to oral sex contests: A brief history of sexploitative party games.” I'll bet the history presented here is better than the brief one misrepresented in the article on the Bible. This is not journalism, this is liberalism run amok.

a young non-religious friend once came home from school with a bright green Gideon’s New Testament that she later touted as a reserve of fine rolling papers

Anybody that thinks ink printed rolling papers are a good idea is stoopider than the average stoner.

It would be more useful to change the title to “Why Progressives get the Ten Commandments Wrong”

As with all things Progressive, he who controls the meaning of words and concepts gets to control the outcome of the debate. In this case, progressives don’t hesitate to redefine and nullify the Commandments as they see the need.

Let us start with, You shall have no other gods before Me.

The Progressive religion is the secular State. But in reality it is the god of this world, who is easily identified by anyone who has read the Bible, as Satan.

But putting that minor point aside, Progressives advance their religion via the State and the core mechanism is via collectivist policies. These can be succinctly put as follows: society will be better off when we each live at the expense of everyone else.

There is hardly a social concept that violates more of the Commandments per word than this one. First, it is a blatant lie. Second, it is predicated upon coveting the wealth and income of people who have such in order that the State can be justified in seizing same and redistributing to others. It is Lies, Coveting and Theft, all rolled into one bloodthirsty State policy.

Progressives are so “hell-bent” (so to speak) on their collectivism that they are willing to tell us that their coveting and theft scheme is a form of “charity”.

So, yes indeed! Let us open up the subject of how people get the Ten Commandments wrong and we must start with the conversation with Progressives social policy.

Leftoids love to tell republicans who to vote for and Christians how to worship.

Valerie Tarico claims to be a former fundamentalist.

Imagine the gnashing of teeth if a formerr lesbian advised lesbians where they went wrong.

The second occurrence of the ten commandments is in Deuteronomy 5.

The person who wrote this article is, of course, trying to deceive others and is rejecting God.

May God stop the mouths of his enemies.

One reason is that the Bible actually gives two different sets of Ten Commandments, and they don’t match. In Exodus 20, Moses comes down from Mount Sinai with a set of stone tablets. (This is the most popular version.) Then he gets mad and smashes them and has to go back up and get another set. And God says, “Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.” (Exodus 34:1). But then, apparently, God can’t resist tweaking them a little. Ok, a lot.

The author gets this completely wrong. Here is Exodus 34:27 go on to say:

And the LORD said to Moses, "Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel."

So the second set of tablets were inscribed by God and contained the exact same words as those on the original smashed ones just as Exodus 34:1 states. The additional commandments that the author thinks were on the second pair of tablets were, in fact, additional commandments passed on for Moses to record separately which he does in Exodus.

The author's own risible version of his 10 commandments are utter tripe, devoid of wisdom, typical of this age, and all but meaningless to any other time or culture.

Salon needs to stick with the mindless nonsense they major in.

Exodus 34 is not a restatement of the 10 Commandments and never is such a claim made. This is a listing of the commands and warnings God gives Israel in the form of a covenant that relate specifically to their possessing the Promised Land. The same words were recorded on the second set but that isn’t what Moses recounts in the rest of the chapter.

These guys can’t get the simplest thing right. No sense reading the rest of the article.

"Why Christians get the 10 commandments wrong" (Salon)

Therein lies the problem, discussing the Old Testament convenants for the Hebrews with the Christian's New Testament covenants.

When they don't know the difference their observations will make little sense. Christians have but one commandment and that commandment is love. Accepting Jesus's offer of salvation frees one from the chains that bound them.

Valerie Tarico routinely provides her opinion on the abortion issue to the Huffington Post, Salon, and AlterNet. Last June in an opinion paper, Valerie stated, “It’s tempting to think that Christian conservatives have reached some new pinnacle of hating women and sexuality.”

Valerie encourages society to, “honor women who decide to terminate pregnancies, and “honor doctors who provide abortion services,” according to Valarie, the individuals are performing God’s work.

“An abortion when needed is a blessing,” Tarico posited. “It is a gift, a grace, a mercy, a cause for gratitude, a new lease on life. Being able to choose when and whether to bring a child into the world enables us and our children to flourish.” Valerie believes that Christianity is becoming a dinosaur – a religion that is quickly losing its appeal. “Things are looking bright for those who would like to see humanity more grounded in science and reason,” stated Valerie.

Dr. Valerie Tarico, former Director of the Children’s Behavior and Learning Clinic in Bellevue, Washington, is a psychologist with a passion for personal and social evolution. In 2005, she co-founded the Progress Alliance of Washington, a collective of future-oriented donors investing in progressive change. She also is the founder of WisdomCommons.org, an interactive website that showcases humanity’s shared moral core via quotes, poetry, stories and essays from many traditions. Tarico’s book, Trusting Doubt: A Former Evangelical Looks at Old Beliefs in a New Light, offers personal insight into how we can apply “constructive curiosity” to our most closely guarded beliefs.

As a social commentator, Tarico writes and speaks on issues ranging from religious fundamentalism to gender roles, to reproductive rights and technologies. A primary focus is on improving access to top tier contraceptive technologies. To that end, she serves on the board of Advocates for Youth, a D.C. based nonprofit with wide-ranging programs related to reproductive health and justice. Tarico co-chairs of Washington Women for Choice, serves on Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest’s Board of Advocates, and is a Senior Writing Fellow at Sightline Institute, a think tank focused on sustainable prosperity.
