Photo gallery from the city's third 'Mass Mob' this summer. Nearly 2,000 people packed an historic Catholic Church for a regular Sunday Mass. It's the third time it's happened, with the crowds getting bigger each time. (Detroit Free Press had a great article on it here, but won't let folks post excerpts, so you'll have to read the article at the link: http://www.freep.com/article/20140713/NEWS05/307130141/Detroit-Mass-Mob-Sweetest-Heart )

I saw a story about this on the news tonight. I also saw a story about Detroit residents telling Obama to think again if he intends to dump illegals in Detroit.

Really? An archdiocese doesn’t have it’s own webpage?

From the FREEP story.
I never thought Id see a communion rail again,
I'm not Catholic but I hadn't realized they didn't use them anymore.

The Archdiocese of Detroit does have its own web page... but the ‘Mass Mob’ isn’t their own event, so the event’s not on their web page. It’s a grassroots thing organized by local Catholics. The archdiocese just posted photos of it in social media/Facebook. The Archbishop of Detroit’s also said some nice things about the ‘Mass Mob’ through social media: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEVzLgMa2yY&feature=youtu.be
Frankly, because the Mass Mob was started and organized through Facebook, I think it’s nice that the archdiocese and archbishop are using the same medium to respond to it and pump it up...

What’s this “Freep” thingy? I’ve seen it a few times now. It doesn’t have anything to do with here, does it?

I received an e-mail about Christians supporting Christians. Had to do with the National Day Of Prayer being canceled this year by -——. Put politics aside and stand with your Christian neighbor. They want 100,000,000 to stand up, then they want 200,000,000 to stand up. Mob your local Church with believers! I like this! Leave a dollar with a note, “Vote for Jesus”, or the one who holds him in their heart.

As a Lutheran for 30+ years we always had and used a communion rail and receiving on the tongue. It’s the one thing I miss since having become Catholic and being in between several parishes that no longer have them.

Haven’t used them since Vatican II. We went to a Latin mass, it was a high mass too so it was about 2 hrs long at St. Joseph near Eastern Market recently and we used the communion rail. Its been since the early or mid 60’s since Vatican II changes.

Latin Mass parishes still use communion rails and everyone receives on the tongue.
