An atheist group at Dartmouth College is planning an event aimed at skewering the reputation of the late Mother Teresa.
The Atheists Humanists Agnostics (AHA) club sent out a campus-wide e-mail announcing the program on Tuesday and promising a full-out romp against why one of the most beloved people of the century, Mother Teresa, is as Hitchens put it a lying, thieving Albanian dwarf.
The e-mail says the group plans to screen an anti-Mother Teresa film, discuss Hitchens book, Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice, and question how the public has been conned into thinking this woman [Teresa] was good.
The e-mail states Teresa, who is on her way to sainthood in the Catholic church, was not a friend of the poor, but was a friend of poverty.
The email links to a now infamous article by the late Christopher Hitchens which attempts to debunk much of the lore that surrounds Teresa.
The event has ignited controversy on the Ivy League campus, with students telling Campus Reform they were upset AHA was hosting such an event.
Its easy for a group of privileged Ivy League students who have never experienced poverty to meet in a super secret room and think themselves as intellectuals by bashing Mother Teresa, Melanie Wilcox, Executive Editor of the conservative Dartmouth Review, told Campus Reform.
Id like to know what they have done, if anything, to help the needy, she added.
AHA President Adam Hann, however, defended the event, but admitted he had intentionally used provocative language in the e-mail to excite interest among students.
What I like to do is, when there are areas that people just get vitriol or angry even for bringing it up, I like to go and have that discussion, said Hann.
Hann added that he estimates about five to ten people will participate in the event slated for this Saturday.
Mother Teresa is widely known for founding the Missionaries of Charities, a charity tasked with aiding the poor. She was beatified in 2003 by Pope John Paul II, a step toward possible sainthood.
Remember Jesus performed only a few miracles in his home town. Faith is a gift.
Are they trying to make the case that Mother Teresa was a Democrat politician?!!
Because DNC policies are designed deliberately to keep the poor in need of handouts.
So....like..don’t they know that MT is dead? Are they gonna dig her up and accuse her? Shit....while they’re at it, maybe they can dig up Mahatma G and diss him too.....
Honestly, all this reminds me of my daughter, my son, my grand daughters’ recitals, plays or put-ons, whatever, at grade school....gather together people that HAVE to be interested and make a big big deal out of it and heap praise and thoughtful thoughts about it (this must be the elite media’s job).....
I saw the Penn&Teller Bull§¶¡+ episode on Mother Teresa. The Atheist may have some good points, it’s worthy of discussion as long as both sides are presented.
Ignorance is alive and well at Dartmouth.
Cause if you can’t trash a dead octogenarian nun who spent her lifetime pulling people out of gutters, what fun is there?
Wow. Think of all the people who can be skewered and there’s nothing they can say in defense of themselves...BECAUSE THEIR DEAD, you idiots!
Mother Teresas’ ministry included holding the dirty, unwanted in her arms as they breathed their last breath, thus giving them some degree of dignity. She was an unwavering voice for the unborn. I could go on.
THEIR = THEY ARE. Sorry.
Hey, the Brits dug up Cromwell and others so they could posthumously execute them and place Cromwell's head on a pole for a few years. When the athiest crowd establishes their religion as the state religion they'll be doing the same sort of thing with a whole mob of people, not just Mother Teresa.
This is what you get for having scum teaching other scum in school.
I don’t think I would put a lot of stock in what Penn and Teller were telling me. I put them in the same club with Michael Moore and Bill Maher.
So, who is the most beloved and admired atheist in the world? Which great atheist has been humble? Which great atheist has done his/her work by preserving human life?
Who can the atheists brag about that stands for life?
Not to mention all the wonderful atheist hospitals.
Well, see, there you go. If one is an atheist, there is no afterlife, so therefore everything Mother Theresa did was a fraud. It must be wonderful to be this kind of an atheist, to feel so superior to we fools.
Penn Jillette is an atheist.
This sounds very similar to what they do in North Korea. They put a person on stage and then the audience hurls invectives and accusations for a given period of time. I can’t remember the term for it.
full-out romp against why one of the most beloved people of the century, Mother Teresa, is as Hitchens put it a lying, thieving Albanian dwarf.
I didn’t realize Mr. Hutchens was being FORCED to attend Church, recite Bible verses, tithe his income, and modify his DVR to only allow recordings of Billy Graham.
I also didn’t realize how Mother Theresa has so adversely affected Mr. Hutchens. It must be tough going through life carrying the shame...
Hutchins should learn to be respectful and tolerant of people of faith, we are the majority, and it will serve him well in life. Hutchins should also consider joining me at Church Sunday. Maybe he will feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and come to know Jesus as his Savior. Plus, we’re Baptists and the food is great. If he choses not to come to Church with me, I promise not to host a college seminar making absurd claims about him....
