The congregation at Seattles Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church gave the Rev. Tim Clark a standing ovation Sunday when he announced that the parish would not gather signatures for a referendum to repeal same-sex marriage.
The parish became the sixth in Seattle to opt out of the petition drive for Referendum 74 that has been endorsed and foisted on parishes by Archbishop J. Peter Sartain.
I am happy to report that Our Lady of the Lake parish-oners have been overwhelmingly and, thus far, unanimously supportive of the decision I made NOT to gather signatures in support of this Referendum, Clark wrote in response to an e-mail.
The standing ovation experienced during one of the Masses says less about me and much more about the health of this parish. I only wished the archbishop could have experienced the sustained applause the sensus fidelium of the people. He needs to listen to this voice. That is my prayer.
Other parishes to shun the signature drive have includes St. James Cathedral, St. Joseph Church, St. Marys Church, St. Patrick Church and Christ Our Hope Catholic Church.
In several parishes, pastors have said that gathering signatures against marriage equality would, in the words of the Rev. Michael Ryan of St. James Cathedral, prove hurtful and seriously divisive in our community.
Archbishop Sartain, in a letter that Clark will place in his parish bulletin next week, asked the Catholic faithful in Western Washington to support Referendum 74.
Opponents of marriage equality need to gather 120,577 valid voter signatures by June 6 to block the states new same-sex marriage law from taking effect and put the issue on Novembers ballot.
The archbishop said that all persons should be treated with respect, sensitivity and love, but reiterated church teachings on sexuality that are............

"Foisted" by the mean, dictatorial Archbishop. Just in case you haven't made up your mind about this thing.
The lavender mafia is still active and assertive in Seattle, it would appear. The move to repeal Referendum 74 certainly got them out into the open.
Your move, bishop.
It certainly does, Rev. And its terminal.
“Your move, bishop.”
Yup. Gives the bishop a chance to show everyone just how big a deal he thinks it is or not. He did good for doing it in the first place, but the six parishes are also sending a message to all the others.
Freegards
Unreal. Can entire congregations be ecommunicated?
Time to remove those 6 parish priests. Where do you think the next sex scandal is going to come from? Leading your flock to hell “Priest”, now That you are going to have to answer for.
Go form your own church, ya lazy dopes.
: ) well put. Any kind of cheering or clapping in a Church where Jesus is present in the Eucharist is never a good idea. AND This freakin article says “Opponents of marriage equality” what is that bull s### two dudes cannot marry under God. Same with girls. That will never change.
Same place the last one came from: faggots with access to boys.
Lord forgive me for I did not teach them well. :-(
Uh, ok. So according to this heretic, Catholic dogma is now subject to popular consent?
I will applaud him too - if perhaps he did not advocate for Obamacare, if he declines to register voters in the church, if he indeed shows some good church-state principles.
Take that God.. We know better then you........ Or at least these Catholic Churches seem to believe.............
Lord,
in your love for the Church,
you provide bishops, priests and deacons
as shepherds for your people,
and you call men and women to leave all things
to serve you joyfully in religious life.
May those whom you have raised up
as servants of the Gospel and ministers for your altars
show forth dedication and compassion.
May those whom you have chosen to serve you as religious
provide by their way of life
a convincing sign of your kingdom
for the Church and the whole world.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

You’re right on both counts: He IS a heretic, and Catholic dogma cannot be made up by popular consent.
These priests need to be defrocked.
The bishop needs to remove all six of them. Tolerating this stuff just lets it fester.
When Cardinal O’Connor was still with us in New York, he would write a letter that was supposed to be read from the pulpit at every church on Pro-Life Sunday. You could tell all you needed to know about a particular church by whether or not the priest read the letter.
Unfortunately, O’Connor never followed up on his orders, so there was no punishment. That lets these dissidents think they can get away with it. Seeing them get away with it corrupts more people and has a terrible effect on the whole diocese. That’s why New York Catholics cheerfully vote for pro-abortion politicians.
Interesting! So they are are afraid of a vote instead of a small amount of legislators. Gee! I wonder why? Liberal California and Massachusetts had a vote for this form of same sex but was voted down. Now NY knew not to allow the voters but the people in the capital decided. My brother who lives in Ny was very upset.
All it is about is the people voting on the issue. Why would the parish members not want an open vote for november. What is democracy? I know bills are passed in each state capital but why not a vote on this hot issue by the people directly.
“In several parishes, pastors have said that gathering signatures against marriage equality would, in the words of the Rev. Michael Ryan of St. James Cathedral, ‘prove hurtful and seriously divisive in our community.’ “
I am sure the same charges were levied against Christ Himself.
"In Massachusetts today the freedom to marry is secure," said Gov. Deval Patrick, who lobbied state lawmakers to defeat the measure. Opponents of same-sex marriage fell five votes short of the 50 votes needed to put the issue before voters in 2008".
Hopefully the Bishop will sideline these priests and temporarily close their parishess.
