"Opponents of marriage equality need to gather 120,577 valid voter signatures by June 6 to block the state’s new same-sex marriage law from taking effect and put the issue on November’s ballot."

Interesting! So they are are afraid of a vote instead of a small amount of legislators. Gee! I wonder why? Liberal California and Massachusetts had a vote for this form of same sex but was voted down. Now NY knew not to allow the voters but the people in the capital decided. My brother who lives in Ny was very upset.

All it is about is the people voting on the issue. Why would the parish members not want an open vote for november. What is democracy? I know bills are passed in each state capital but why not a vote on this hot issue by the people directly.

"In Massachusetts today the freedom to marry is secure," said Gov. Deval Patrick, who lobbied state lawmakers to defeat the measure. Opponents of same-sex marriage fell five votes short of the 50 votes needed to put the issue before voters in 2008".
