Informative video! Nice application of DNA PCR marking and duplication. Still, puzzle fanatics can have a field day since there are so many fragments to collate.

Some assume that the DSS are the originals but it is still only copies of copies and not the original source of the records!

That was made note of in the video!

“Hello this is not a Romney thread FastCoyote the Title is
DNA and the Dead Sea Scrolls how do the pieces fit

There is no LDS or Romney in this talks article!

Mods why have you allowed this thread to be hijacked by the anti’s LDS & Mitt folks when this Thread is about DNA & DDS?”

And let me ask this, why are threads on raisins allowed, and why are threads on how everyone who says anything about Mormonism is a bigot allowed?

We got off track on this thread restornu because you have questioned and denied the viability of every website that was not Mormon. So when a BYU publication comes up, it seems only fair to question whether it is or is not Mormon propaganda (just as you claim the Turner sites are propaganda).

Live by the sword, die by the sword restornu. But I will bring up the God the Mother topic on a more appropriate thread.

By the way, thanks for going straight for the Moderators instead of just making a request directly to me, that’s a class act.

Hi Logo,

Hence, Jesus Christ is an unchangeable being who changed. How do we resolve this apparent contradiction?

Through the theology of the Holy Trinity, hypostatic union, divine essence, etc.

It's quite far from LDS teaching of course, but it's complete. You could look for "An Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith" by St John Damascene for the long form.

On another tack, it is pretty much universal in all religions that God is infinite in being (The Doctrine of the Holy Trinity also holds this). This of course is what makes it monotheistic.

I believe we've touched this point before, but LDS, I think you would agree, is polytheistic, multiple Gods, if as others have stated (some) men are destined to become God(s).

I tried earlier to flag the RM to put this thread back on a secular track

There nothing in this article about the Church or the LDS it was secular. Every time a Jewish person post from their University should we also go to conspiracies about them too or stay on track about the article?

This project was a joint effort from many avenues that each contributes their specialty to unlock the knowledge in the DSS!

Even MHG verify to this in post #60 so I object this was not about election or about doctrine it. There was no jump off point to go there!

It was just fascinating of the technology we have today

Resty, the video is informative and interesting!... The essence of the presentation is that DNA is helping to collate fragment portions of the scrolls. Many pieces of scrolls are now to be sorted into categories based upon DNA which shows the parchments are from the same animal thus the pieces belong together but still have to be put together for text, like a puzzle once they are placed into a grouping.

BTW, the video is dec`idedly non-religious in nature, merely presenting how DNA science is aiding in collating fragmentary pieces of the scrolls.

I believe we've touched this point before, but LDS, I think you would agree, is polytheistic, multiple Gods, if as others have stated (some) men are destined to become God(s).

I am just courious if it is One God as you claim than why did not our Jewish brothers and sisters have a problem with the Messiah the only begotten Son of God the Father in Heaven?

Do you know what it means to be joint heirs as in Romans 8?

Romans 8
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

So what are you D-fendr, if you are lead by the Spirit of God chop liver?

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

If the Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God what are you D-fendr Chop liveer?

Luke 12
42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?

43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

Man, a Spirit Child of Heavenly Father

why did not our Jewish brothers and sisters have a problem with the Messiah the only begotten Son of God the Father in Heaven?

Oh, they did. That's why they eventually threw the Christians out of the synagogues and stayed Jews. The jewish Messiah will be a man, a king, not divine. To them this problem violated the One God. Orthodox Christians interpret the trinity from scripture, and maintain One God in three persons. (Not two separate persons as Joseph Smith saw.

In orthodox Christianity, God is our father, we are his children, but we are not divine.

Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

But not divine. We are made in God's image, but are not God. We may share in the divine essence, but are not divine.

If it were otherwise, we would not be monotheists. And the early Christians, and orthodox Christians today, maintain, as their jewish precedents, "Our God is One."

This is a very different teaching than LDS as you illustrate. It is your Church's interpretation, but at stark variance with orthodox trinitarian Christianity. As is Jehovahs Witnesses and I believe others who also interpret the New Testament differently and develop their own bibles.

Thanks very much for your reply, as always. I'm not at this point arguing the rightness or wrongness, merely pointing out how different LDS theology is.

Errata: I should have written: “Not two separate Gods as Joseph Smith saw.”

There is nothing in the Book of Mormon that contradicts the bible. It is simply the sacred text of the descendents of Abraham who came to America.

Ha ha ha ha ha. There were no descendents of Abraham who came to America with a sacred text other than the Torah. The Book of Mormon is a concoction that is entirely 19th century New York in its philosophy and topics of interest and that plagiarizes extensively from the King James Bible.

It also really does make you read the Old Testament differently.

That's the idea: to get you to think all you've learned in your life is wrong.

No women were allowed into the community except occasionally for service purposes.

Celebacy was required.

You had to give all your worldly belongings to the community.

Those are a few more that i can remember.

You do not hear Mormons bashing the Baptists, Catholics, Jews or any other religion. We just don’t believe it is our place to tell someone that their beliefs are wrong.

17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself adelivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I bsaw two cPersonages, whose brightness and dglory defy all description, estanding above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My fBeloved gSon. Hear Him!
18 My object in going to ainquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all awrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those bprofessors were all ccorrupt; that: “they ddraw near to me with their lips, but their ehearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the fcommandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the gpower thereof.”
20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself alying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, bmother inquired what the matter was. I replied, “Never mind, all is well—I am well enough off.” I then said to my mother, “I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.”

It is not an interpretation as you like to think we as LDS testify it came from God who restored his knowledge unto man and those who have desire have received a testimony that it is true!

Thanks very much for your reply, as always. I'm not at this point arguing the rightness or wrongness, merely pointing out how different LDS theology is.

This is not Theology for this is the Lord's doctrine received by Jesus Christ through Joseph Smith!

The LDS don't have a consensus discussion on such matters we are taught by the power of the Holy Ghost who gives us our understanding!

Theology
The study of the nature of God and religious truth; rational inquiry into religious questions.
A system or school of opinions concerning God and religious questions: Protestant theology; Jewish theology.
A course of specialized religious study usually at a college or seminary.

The dead sea scrolls are very precious to all Jews and Christians.
Why is that? What do they reveal or support?
