Thanks for your reply.
I see your point about the definition of polytheism. If it’s the belief in more than one God, LDS qualifies; if it’s the worship of more than one God, then it doesn’t. So, since you define it differently, I’ll try hard not to use the term in conjunction with LDS in the future, but use “belief in more than one God” instead, if you feel this is accurate.
Pantheism is another and different category; I wasn’t saying LDS were pantheists.
God not being omnipresent and being finite is also a major difference in LDS theology. I can’t think of any major religion that teaches this.
The divine nature did not change, it is immutable. This, immutability, in orthodox Christiainity is another attribute of God the LDS do not share.
“For them [Trinitarians], I will admit to being a tritheist.”
I’m trying to allow our religions to define themselves and their beliefs and point out differences on the basis of what they say they are, rather than what we say they are. I think this is the better way to discuss religion.
thanks again...
Of course others disagree that it is the Lord's doctrine. "Theology" is the usual term used for a religion's teaching about God, nothing pejorative intended. If it helps though, I'll use the phrase "What Joseph Smith taught" instead of theology in the future.
thanks for your reply.
No, cloud means cloud and pillar of fire means pillar of fire.
They were not priestly titles.
There is not enough band width to cover the “evils of the LDS” in the religion forum.
When I attended a LDS for a year while in collage living with my uncle an LDS Bishop, I never heard the Bible mentioned once...not once.
this thread’s gotten a bit toxic.
I’m gonna retire from it, hope to see you again.
best wishes...
Many thanks.
It is YOUR outfit that claims to have the RESTORED Gospel.
Why are the things you do NOT in your scriptures??
5387 nasiy' naw-see' or nasi8 {naw-see'}; from 5375; properly, an exalted one, i.e. a king or sheik; also a rising mist:--captain, chief, cloud, governor, prince, ruler, vapour. 8
Then you'll also have to use the other phrases - What Brigham Young modified; What WILFORD WOODRUFF and Lorenzo Snow ended.
You should not have SLEPT so much!!
You obviously missed out when they were going over the mistranslated stuff and correcting it.
Not fer me!
Mark 16:18
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Good one.
Yes, we do.
Why are the things you do NOT in your scriptures??
Many things are, some are not.
Why do you assume that everything must be in the scriptures? We make no such assumption.
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
My dad just gave me a CD that was taken from a reel-to-reel tape. It is a tape of me and my brothers and sisters talking to my grandparents on Christmas Day. At the end of us talking, my dad added a much earlier tape. I was about 4 years old at the time. He asked me what I talked about in Sunday School that morning. "Jesus". My dad then asked me what song I wanted to sing. "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam." So I sang that song. The first thing I remember reading was Bible Stories. At eight years of age, when I was baptized, I received a Bible (King James version) and a Book of Mormon.
As a family, we read from the Bible. When I was in Seminary (ninth grade through 12th grade), we studied the Old and New Testament. In order to pass the class, we read the whole book and studied and discussed it. (The other 2 years we studied the Book of Mormon and The Doctrine & Covenants.) I took New Testament (2 semesters) at BYU. I took Old Testament at BYU (2 semesters.) I also took a Bible Literature class as well as a religions of the world class.
In Sunday School we study The Old Testament for 1 year, the New Testament for 1 year, the Book of Mormon for 1 year, and the Doctrine & Covenants for 1 year. (We are currently studying the New Testament, we talked about II Corinthians last Sunday.) In my personal reading, I read from the Book of Mormon in the morning, and from the Bible at night before I go to bed.
I am not unique. The Bible is included in our scripture study, indeed, we believe that the Bible testifies of Christ. We believe that the Book of Mormon is a second testament of Christ. The Bible is central to our faith.
I agree. Thanks for your thoughtful posts.
