You should study the Hebrew, in the oldest version of Ezekiel that was found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, the term Cloud was Nessiim, this is the same word that is the plurl of Nasi, which is a prince (priestly) that leads pilgrims. This has the same root as the word for one of the versions of Messiah in Hebrew NSR.

I think the symbolism here is beautiful if you look at the correlation of the cloud leading the pilgrims out of the wilderness, that title was later used to describe a priest who would lead people out.

This doesn't change the meaning of any of the Torah, but what it does is add a new dimension to the symbolic nature of titles and words that were chosen.
