Russian Patriarch calls on Protestants to resolve homosexual “marriage” problem

Moscow, Jan. 13, 2006 (CNA) - The Patriarch of Moscow, Alexis II, has called on Protestant Churches to solve the issue of homosexual “marriage” by adhering to the values and principles of the Christian faith, instead of being carried away by liberal tendencies.

During a meeting between Alexis II and the president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, Yukka Paarma, the Patriarch said, “The values that come from the Gospel must be preserved and advanced, and we must not be influenced by the liberal forces of today.”

Its happening in Latin dioceses all across the country. The GOA has had a few molestation lawsuits too, but I think they all involved girls, which isn;t to say that homosexual problems don't exist in the GOA. There was a terrible scandal at the seminary a few years back when an Archimandrite from Greece, drunk as a lord, attacked a Palestinian Christian seminarian. Apparently there was a little hive of these guys at the seminary, all there for advanced degrees and all from Greece. They were sent packing.

Only certain parts of the Anglican Church accept homosexuality, and those parts are in the process of being expelled from the Anglican Communion.

My own parish, in which I was grew up and am still a member, pulled out of ECUSA on the Day of Epiphany and, as a result, is being threatened with lawsuits galore by our former bishop. We opted to saty with the Anglican Communion rather that sink with ECUSA.

As an orthodox Anglican, I have tremendous appreciation for the aid that we have received from both the Catholics and Eastern Orthodox in this fight.

Aadams2 (Arlin) represented orthodox anglicanism for quite a while on these FR pages and surely won my respect.

His passing deprived many around here of a solid voice speaking to Anglicans and Anglican offshoots such as Methodists.

...I gotta tell you it's more than a little amusing to read posts from our separated Catholic bretheren suggesting that all Protestant churches must have some sort of homosexual problem.

And that was my reaction as well.

Anglican is called Episcopolian in the US, correct? I didn't know that. Here in Canada, there seems to be a real divide over the issue.

The Episcopal Church (ECUSA) is one of 38 provinces in the Anglican Communion. The Anglican Church of Canada (ACC) is another province. In the last five years, Anglican provinces in Africa, South America and Southeast Asia have been taking oversight of Anglican congregations in the US and Canada that don't want any part of the mess in ECUSA or ACC. It would be as though the Catholic Archbishop of New York opening and or taking over parishes within the geographical boundaries of the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston without permission from the Archbishop of Boston.

The problem is that if you are in the Anglican Communion you are also by extention in communion with PECUSA.

That is why I brought my family to the LCMS from the ELCA four months ago. Couldn't be happier.

This is Lutheran-Orthodox dialogue in action!!!!

Finland has native Lutheran and Orthodox churches, and the Finnish Lutheran Church also has strong ties with the Russian Orthodox Church.

That's good news. I did hear that it was African Anglican churches that were most digusted with the direction in the West.

Mr. CGG and I did the same thing 13 years ago. The blessings have been immeasurable. If anyone would have told me the changes in our life would have been like this, I would not have believed them.

The wonderful pastor we had tapped Mr. CGG and told him he was going to be an elder. Mr. CGG freaked out. I have no idea what happened that I don't know about but Mr. CGG is now an elder and it has changed his life. He takes his duties very seriously.

Our wonderful young pastor left and we have been in the process of calling a new pastor. The call committee has done a great job and they met last night with the new pastor we have called. Scriptures are gone over carefully to make sure everyone is in agreement on doctrine, etc. I feel very good about what they have done.

Not exactly. The African and Asian Provinces that are providing oversight to conservatives in ECUSA have broken communion with (P)ECUSA. At the last gathering of Anglican Primates (the head bishop of each province is called a Primate), many of them refused to take communion with Frank Griswald of ECUSA or Andrew Hutchinson of Canada. Canterbury Archbishop Rowan Williams was then forced to hold daily offcie services instead.

Similar case here in Davenport. There are ads on the radio, and a link on the diocese web site.

That is why the Russian Partiarch felt he needed to address this issue in Scandinavia. I have heard of limited communion between the two in the past, but after this I suspect that is done.

There was an article posted here a few months ago about a Swedish born pastor that had to be ordained by an Ethiopian Lutheran bishop because of the nuttiness the state church was doing. Seems he wouldn't sign off on women's ordination, so they wouldn't ordain him.

I heard some news blurb recently about some legal maneuver to distinguish the property (and finance?) of the diocese from that of the parishes.

This might limit the ability of the diocese to pay??? I guess it might make it possible for a diocese to go bankrupt without affecting the various churches within that diocese.
