I heard some news blurb recently about some legal maneuver to distinguish the property (and finance?) of the diocese from that of the parishes.

This might limit the ability of the diocese to pay??? I guess it might make it possible for a diocese to go bankrupt without affecting the various churches within that diocese.

I think that is the master plan.

The danger is that some ambitious AG will invoke the RICO laws against a diocese. In some states, the corporate is such that the diocese has legal control of the property, and can be used in a bankrupty (Missouri for instance).

It is a mess.
