Who will substitute for Rush Limbaugh?
October 10, 2003

Posted on 10/10/2003 7:57:37 PM PDT by ConservativeMan55

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh announced during his radio show Friday that he is addicted to painkillers and is checking into a rehab center to "break the hold this highly addictive medication has on me."

"Immediately following this broadcast, I am checking myself into a treatment center for the next 30 days to once and for all break the hold this highly addictive medication has on me," he added.

The show will continue during this time, of course, with an array of guest hosts you have come to know and respect. I am not making any excuses. You know, over the years athletes and celebrities have emerged from treatment centers to great fanfare and praise for conquering great demons.

They are said to be great role models and examples for others. Well, I am no role model. I refuse to let anyone think I am doing something great here, when there are people you never hear about, who face long odds and never resort to such escapes.

Prayers go out to Rush and his family during this time of need.

But a question that lingers in my mind is...who's going to fill in for the great Maha Rushie while he's gone?

Who are some of your favorite guest hosts and who would you prefer fill in? I know there will probably be many different people over the next 30 days but I'd like to see a possible list of names of talk show hosts and celebrities that would jump in to help their friend.

Tony Snow filled in for Rush when he had his hearing surgery. That was excellent to help a friend in times of need.

Nothing against Walter Williams or Michael Hedgecock? But those guys always fill in for Rush.

I'd like to see Rush's brother David fill in for him. Maybe even Rush's wife whom Rush mentions on occasion.

David has proven to be an excellent man.

I'm attempting to think of other Conservative commentators without 9-5 jobs? Its pretty hard to find those Conservative Commentators that don't already have a full time job.

How about Dennis Miller or Al Michaels.
I would LOVE to see Al Michaels fill in for Rush while he's gone.
Ted Nugent?
Ann Coulter already has her own radio show I believe.

Laura Ingrahm already has her own radio show.

Hannity's already got his plate full. Brit Hume has his plate full.

I think the final analysis is that there isn't anybody that can rip into the liberals like Rush can.
Rush did indicate on his show today that his brother David might be on the show.

I've wondered about James Golden subbing too. As I recall he left for a while for a short-lived Internet broadcasting venture, then came back around the time Rush lost his hearing.

My all-time favorite sub is Tony Snow. He tells the most wonderful family stories. I especially enjoyed his account of his family's vacation in Italy a few years ago, meeting the Pope and watching fireflies at night.

Mary Matalin used to sub once in a while but I imagine she's busy with that George Clooney HBO show. However, she's a Rush friend so you never know. Sometimes I wonder about her (i.e., her husband) but I find her entertaining.

Toby Keith or Charlie Daniels. Somebody that can light a fire under our asses to get us moving like Rush does!

How about Bo Snerdley (James Golden).

I was wondering that too today, but after all these years I think I've only heard his voice twice, doubt he's in to it.

Tony Snow is my pick.

I'd also love to hear three or more hours of Thomas Sowell.

Regardless, it's gonna be a long 30 days, though much longer for Rush than us. Prayers.

A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the trip.

David Limbaugh subbed for Sean Hannity at least once. I noticed he did a lot of "um," filler type words, getting his next thoughts together (probably due to his lack of experience on radio) but he's a personable guy and I would enjoy hearing him again. Just got his new book.

One of the funniest things that ever occurred on a guest-host program happened about a year ago.

Rush had supported a black candidate in NY State (whom the dims would NOT support, they supported his WHITE opponenet) and as a JOKE (as in having a little fun at the expense of liberal idiots), Rush suggested that if the DNC would not support that candidate, perhaps RUSH would now be the official leader of Black people.

Well, Walter Williams was on as a guest host, and a good ol' boy called up and suggested that Walter Williams should be the new leader of White People (by the tone of the caller's voice, he was not racist, he was just having a little fun).

Dr. Williams said something like, "I don't feel comfortable with that, leading you white folks is like herding cats!"

This was all said in tones of good humor.

Only a racist leftist could dislike Dr. Williams.

Come to think of it, the best arguments against racism are jokes that make racism look silly.

"How about David Asman?"

I think that's a cool idea.

It's just starting to hit me -- a month without Rush. I don't think I've gone that long since the '80s!
