A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Hurricane War Stories

Tell us your Isabel war story here, if indeed you have electricity to do so.

Well, it was not the prettiest radar image for weather.

Having spent the last week staring at loads of NOAA weather graphs, all my block has to show for the event is a tree right across from my house that basically aimed at my house but was too small to hit it. Two of my neighbors helped me saw it away and we opened up our street for business. I'm not certain, but it may well be illegal to clear a downed tree on public ground in this city!

The winds around here never got too bad, their worst in DC was around midnight:

But that was strong enough to leave many homes without power, and I and many other volunteers worked our muscles sore after the storm distributing ice to powerless neighbors. My hurricane relief work will have to constitute my excuse for missing the DC Chapter's meeting Sunday, but rumor has it tgslTakoma was out of electricity and so cooked up a storm of food for the meeting!

Well, that hurricane behaved just like a Democrat, didn't it? Mindlessly destructive and noisy!
Hmm, sounds like a top ten list. Share with us your hurricane war story and I'll share with you my hurricane top ten list.

Top Ten Reasons that Isabel was a Democrat

10. It was an expensive mess.

 9. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit didn't try to stop it.

 8. It received an inordinate amount of press attention.

 7. It harmed rich and poor alike.

 6. It behaved irrationally.

 5. It favored the East Coast of the U.S.

 4. It gave federal government workers two days off for free.

 3. Its statistics were overblown, inaccurate, and highly misleading.

 2. It was mindlessly noisy.

and the number one reason why Isabel is a Democrat . . . .  1. It thrived on hot air.

>>>>>BTW, Cal, You can't talk about me now, HEE! HEE!

Currently, I can't. I'm on lurking trying to catch up; but my head is still VERY swimmy. I have walking pneumonia.

But, with you pips, I don't have to 'talk'.

hee hee.

Yes, he has done a fantastic job on both of our dad's pic's. Mine really needed to be worked on, it was starting to fade out, have asked SD if he could get that shadow off of his front teeth and he said he could! So that will be an improvement on the original.

Thanks again Serpent Dove! :)

Take good care of yourself Cal and try to stay in the bed until you're better. I know, that's almost impossible to do with kids around but please try.

Oh no! I was bringing your books. Now I'll have to mail them after all. Sheesh, you just have to get out of that meeting. Take a sick day or something. We can't have a get-together without you. That's all there is to it.

I'm game for once a quarter. Will look for a better place for meeting in the same area though. Maybe a motel with a restaurant that has separate dining area for groups. There is a Holiday Inn here that is set up like that. Larger parties can have a separate dining area that is private. I'm excited about Thurs, but disappointed that dutchess won't be there.

So true Ohio. Bummer. We will surely miss dutchess. I still think she should reschedule her other meeting, and tell them she has more important things to do.

I colorize them from black-and-white.

I need to specify: it should be scanned at 100%, 300 dpi or higher..very important. Then sent as a .jpg file.

Looking forward to it!

Guess it would be a little suspicious to call in sick huh?

Fawnn re: financing... I have an interesting story to relate. I wanted to go to the Valley Forge Rally for AMerica so much in April. a local FReeper was going to drive w/me & share expenses (needed, as I had just had car repair done & really did NOT have the cash for the trip..gas money). I have been on very tight finances this past year.

His girlfriend from France surprised him by visiting the night before. I went to bed at 10 just sick about it all.

woke up at 2 & thought. shoot, I am going money or not. I knew it would be very close financially. Rally & all was wonderful. I had half forgotten that my gas tank was on fumes when I drove out of the natl park.

I passed on road a car with hood up. I stopped & asked if they needed to use cell phone etc. The man asked if I could drive him up about 5 miles.. I said sure. He had just had some type of foot procedure done & walking tough. Oliver was barking at him like crazy.. the car was a wreck... looked like a good break-down candidate. The man also looked pretty poor.

When we got to the elderly uncle's home the uncle came out & pushed some money into my hand. I said.. oh, no... I was embarrassed as it was ON THE WAY & I always try to help people. Uncle told me that I was their angel that night. THe young man's wife was sick & really wanted him by her side.

I wish I was in a position to give them the money instead..

BUT as it turned out that 20 was the money THAT I NEEDED TO DRIVE HOME & THEY WERE MY ANGELS.

This happened this spring. I have never shared the story with anyone..just not right opportunity

The couple I have were sent to me on CD by my brother..doubt if the numbers are right.

How about if I send you a few actual pictures & maybe you can pick out? & return. add the postage onto cost.

I know my son in NC (I am in Ohio) has most of pix, but maybe I can find something
