how much water should I be drinking per day

There really isn't too much water, you are drinking to do more than hydrate, you are satisfying hunger as well. Water is wonderful for you, I wish everone would drink more! LOL .. Bottoms up!

I use yogurt too, but it was late & raining & I used what I had. Splenda has maltodextrin, its made from corn. I am allergic to corn. I am trying to keep every trace of corn out of my diet, thats hard, corn is in almost everything in one form or the other.

Hi Bon mots. I did a search on "gluconeogenesis" here is what I found:
Glucose is the most important fuel for the brain and red blood cells and is normally obtained from the diet. When fasting, however, the body’s glucose needs must be met by gluconeogenesis, the biosynthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrate precursors. Gluconeogenesis occurs in the liver and, to a smaller extent, in the kidneys.

Like yourself,I also work out:treadmill, cybex machines and some free weights. On the low carb diet I have always "felt" less tired doing my routine than on a low fat diet. But this "gluconeogenesis",is an interesting question, that I really do not know the answer to. Does any health care professionals, know anything about this condition. Are there concerns for people who work out with weights, for acquiring this condion when on a low carb diet?

My sister makes her regular lasagna recipe and subs sliced squash for the noodles.

Here's another good "pasta" recipe: I cook a big bag of frozen cauliflower to just al dente and serve it topped with a favorite meat sauce a la Italian and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. Almost as good as spaghetti.

Are you tired of eating eggs or are you just tired of making eggs?

Mostly tired of eating them. When I start eating a little fruit again, I think I will just have 1/2 cup of berries or other low sugar fruit with yogurt or maybe with an oz. of cheese. But I'm not eating fruit yet. I assume you eat the plain yogurt with your berries and not the pre-sweetened. Is that correct?

I don't know Maggie, I'm not a doctor...just an amateur and know enough to worry myself I suppose! :-)

I have some audiobooks from Dr. Andrew Weil, a kind of fitness guru. I learned of this there.

I am what is known as a "hardgainer". I can lift a lot of weight, but don't ever seem to get big like a Schwarzenegger. I took all the protein supplements, work out five days a week with really heavy weights... but no big results. I wasn't eating any carbo though. Avoided it like the plague... then learned of gluconeogenesis. It was first found to occur during starvation, but Weil says it can happen on low carb diets.

I would like to know. Ping me if you get an answer!!

Gluconeogenesis is like running a race on prosthetic legs...
Glucose via carbs is the bodies prefered source of glucose for brain function...
But when deprived of CHO, the body has to use other (less efficient sources) to get glucose...which puts more work on hepatic and renal function.

Even now,
We rarely go below 40% CHO in the diet with diabetics...I have kids on insulin pumps who have gone as high as 60% CHO because they are in sports....(the preferred being around 50% for most folks)...

Even the ultra-high PRO tube-feeding formulas (Promote, Traumacal) for wound healing are 25% PRO, 52% CHO and 23% FAT (the need for CHO for efficient energy). Diabetic tube feedings are 20% PRO, 40% CHO and 40% FAT, with 15 gm of fiber. The fat and fiber slow down the glucose uptake because it isn't complex (can't be in liquid form).

So, yeah...
CHO is an important component of the human diet.

Ditter, here's an easy desert.

1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup heavy cream
3 packets splenda or sweet/low
couple of strawberries, or handful of blueberries
splash of cognanc

Split equally between two bowls, mix and serve. YUM!

I have that deep dish pizza recipe. I love it, I make it on Sat to have for the weekend. I went and got a 10" pie pan though, it makes it a little easier to spread things around.

Thanks for the suggestion! Does it still taste like lasagna? Or does it have a squash taste to it?

64 oz a day = eight 8 oz glasses of water = one 2 quart pitcher of water.
