Geoghan was an evil creep, but nobody deserves to die this way. I'll pray for his family...they've certainly suffered enough.

He then repeatedly jumped from the bed in the cell onto Geoghan's motionless body and beat the defrocked priest with his fists.Man - that's a workout! Guess all the Stairmasters were in use at the gym.

Geoghan may have deserve to die, but that should have been the State's decision. Unfortunately, Massachusetts has no death penalty. Geoghan's murderer will continue to serve his life sentence without any real punishment. Say what you will about California, at least we've a death penalty.

Now I understand the situation. As I understand, Massachusetts has no death penalty. The murderer here is already serving a life sentence. So, he has just committed a "free murder." He will be tried, convicted, and sent back to where he is.
Since this was both a "free murder" and a planned one -- rather than spur of the moment -- the immediate question is what the killer stood to gain. Does he have family or friends? Have they suddenly received some money? You see where this could be headed.

Sounds like he went too quick. He deserved worse.

My favorite part:
"We've cut about $3 billion out of [the state's] budget in the last three years, and that may mean police and corrections aren't as well staffed as they should be," said state Rep. Martin J. Walsh (D), the chairman of the legislature's homeland security and federal affairs committee.
No matter what the issue, the "solution" is lots more booty for government union parasites.

Could Druce have been one of Geoghan's victims, years ago?
Has any reporter hit on this possibility yet?
To me, it seemed like a very personal killing. Overkill, really, with Druce jumping on the old man's body that way. Almost symbolic.
A "hit" would've been done in a cold, clean manner, like a quick stabbing.

Wonder if this prisoner was one of the priest's victems?
To: hole_n_one
Druce . . . repeatedly jumped from the bed in the cell onto Geoghan's motionless body and beat the defrocked priest with his fists. I am outraged the Matt Drudge would do something like this. It is one thing to maintain a conservative web site, but it is altogether different to take the law into your own hands and . . .
What? It wasn't Matt Drudge? It was Joseph Druce? Never mind.
To: hole_n_one
Druce, 37, was immediately isolated and will be charged with murder, investigators said. Massachusetts does not have a death penalty, so it is unclear what additional punishment he could receive since he is serving a life sentence for strangling a man in 1988. Still think you can prevent a murderer from committing further murders by giving him life in prison?

Y'know, it never seems to fail that when states get in deep budgetary doodoo like most are these days, their corrections department budgets are slashed more than those in just about any other area, including welfare, discretionary spending, and any sort of boondoggle you can come up with. One guard for that entire area? Putting a known gay-hater in the same area with a pedophilic priest well-known for homosexual assault on young boys? Not good and not acceptable. Budget cuts or no, the Massachusetts corrections people are in a world of hurt on this one.
I will shed no tears for the Father going to meet his Father and receive his judgement, but this wasn't the way to do it. The murderer committed a freebie, and the state of Massachusetts is now wide open for lawsuits from the "good" Father's family, if any.

I love it! Just like it's done on "OZ". The old bastard got what was coming to him.
Now if only they can kill the woman who nearly burned her infant daughter to death in the broiler and got 25 years, and also the Miwaukee demon bitch who stabbed her newborn to death and then got a NINE MONTH SENTENCE from the evil left-wing judge.

It is hard to believe all the non-Christian comments on this thread. I feel sick to my stomach.
We can not be the judge here. How are we to know if Geoghan did not receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, was truly contrite and received forgiveness???
This is not for us to say.
May God have mercy on his soul and bless his family during this ordeal.
