It is hard to believe all the non-Christian comments on this thread. I feel sick to my stomach.

We can not be the judge here. How are we to know if Geoghan did not receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, was truly contrite and received forgiveness???

Give me a break. Let something like this happen to your kid and see how you feel then. Regardless, something tells me Jesus would mind it too much if a child rapist got whacked. At least he'd forgive you for it.

True, we can not know if Geoghan repented to his Redeemer, but then again, we don't "know" if Hitler repented either.

And while we cannot administer "judgement" regarding Geoghan's eternal destination, we certainly CAN discern that his earthly life can indeed be judged -- his actions and deeds were the work of the Evil One.

All the reports I read indicated that this Priest was remorseless and unrepentant.

I can't say I'm happy with what happened, but at the same time I cannot muster any sympathy for this beast.
