Hannity station went dead for about 20 seconds. Said he had never seen anything like it.

It was a standard routine of Abbott and Costello's. They did it in several movies among them "Lost in a Harem".
We kids back in the forties just loved those movies, and howled everytime A&C did the routine.
In those days, kids were easily amused.
DID YOU KNOW?
Lock Martin, who plays the gigantic guard Bobo in Lost in a Harem (1944), would go on to play fearsome robot Gort in the classic sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951).
Lost in a Harem (1944)
Comedy , Musical
NR, MGM, B&W, 89 min.
Bud Abbott
Lou Costello
Marilyn Maxwell
Comic duo Bud Abbott and Lou Costello star as Pete and Harvey, a pair of American magicians stranded with nightclub singer Hazel Moon (Marilyn Maxwell) in a desert kingdom ruled by the wicked Nimativ (Douglas Dumbrille), ouster of the rightful heir, Prince Ramo (John Conte). Ramo hires Hazel to seduce Nimativ, and Pete and Harvey to steal the source of his power: a pair of hypnosis-inducing rings. The film features sets and costumes originally used in Kismet (also released in 1944). Bud and Lou perform their classic routines, "Slowly I Turned" and "Mike's Place."

Had WNBC via MSNBC fine until about 15-20 minutes ago then it quit. Could have been operated by generator maybe then out of fuel. Who knows.

We took the ducklings out front and set up the slip and slide. Kids, neighbors and ducklings had a blast.

Right, but you really think they are even trying to continue their normal routes right now? I would guess that they would revert to a skeleton emergency plan that focused on a limited number of evacuation shuttle routes. The trains should still be able to run, because most systems have backup batteries in the crossing and signal systems, and in an emergency the railroads can waive the Federal rules that limit how long a railroader can work. I would suspect there are similar emergency waivers for bus drivers, so those on duty can continue until the backlog is relieved.
I would not be surprised if there were some major changes in the bus/rail emergency service plans as a result of today.

Not me. My computer is steam-powered.
My 200 Baud modem in my Commodore VIC-20 won't keep up any more - time to trade up...
To: null and void
Just wanted to back up what null and void said. It can take months/years to repair a generator after an accident. I was a generator and excitation specialist for six years with GE. I have worked on two complete stator rewinds of large steam generators. Both jobs took three to four months working six or seven days a week and ten to twelve hours a day two shifts. Of course we had the advantage of having the parts already ordered. From the time you fry the generator to restart could easily be a year.
One thing to keep in mind is that the relaying system is designed to protect a particular peice of equipment. Each piece of equipment be it a generator, transformer, transmission line, or circuit breaker has relays associated with it. The relays will trip that peice of equipment if certain operating parameters are exceeded. People keep talking about computer control of the grid. It is true that large SCADA sytstems run much of the grid. These systems are used to operate the grid, they do not protect it. Protection is provided by relays on each individual peice of equipment. Some effort is made to "coordinate" relay settings but no one models an entire system in a state of flux. Nor would they try to adjust relay settings to take into account a system wide problem, the relays would simple trip the equipment off-line, hopefully isolating the problem. The system should be robust enough to withstand isolated outtages.
Keep in mind also that the entire grid crash probably happened in a matter of seconds. The 65 blackout took only 10 seconds to propagate across the northeast and eastern Canada.

Ashley's now talking about THE HORROR of seeing buses go by full of passengers and No Service indictators.
And she mentions the cops with submachine guns again. Enough of it Ashley!

I just got back from your neck of the woods, not more than ten minutes ago. I gathered some of my kids and my wife and went to Mystic. Had a ball there. Did notice power went off, whike my wife was in the gift shop. Did not know what happened today till we got home here in Ma.
P.S. I love the board walk at Ocean Beach park.

Thank you so much! If I may indulge in a proud mom moment, the other day a neighbor child was showing off a new T-shirt with a photo of Mt. Rushmore on it and naming the Presidents. He got stuck on one and my little guy offhandedly said "Oh, that's Thomas Jefferson!" (I had no idea how he knew that, but obviously there's lots of politics and history talked about around our house!)
A couple months ago we were listening to Rush and my son asked "What's a moderate?" Try explaining that to a 5-year-old, LOL!!
We now return you all to the power outage...
