Beirut in 1983 was their very first strike.I'd say the first strike was at our Tehran Embassy in 1979. That's truly when the WOT began, though Carter didn't see it as such.

I'm don't know what happened to TWA 800. But the idea that in this day and age you could swear an entire ship's company and whoever else in their chain of command who "knew" that they participated in a horrible accident to total secrecy is utterly ludicrous.

If TWA 800 was an attack, it was damn successful that the government couldn't explain it, why hasn't there been more than one incident? If I were a Jihadist leader I'd be inclined to do this more often.
We'll never know, I'm afraid.

If one wanted to go over the head of the President to start a shooting war wouldn't an attack on a jet presumably flying to Israel be a good start? After viewing the movie, "JFK", I do not put anything past the un-elected government. A coverup in this scenario would be the only way to preserve ones presidency without giving in to the forces determined to rule the nation.
I do not know if I believe it, but, just a thought for discussion.

"Forgetting, for a moment, American 587? Sure, tails fall off of planes all the time..."Good point. However, I mean there has never been another center fuel tank explosion before of since TWA-800. That fact alone should make the NTSB and FBI "conclusion" suspect. They refuse to look at the possibility of a shoe bomber on TWA-800. Why?

Obviously, this country caused a great deal of its own problems. In the late 1989, and through the years upto and including 1996, many middle eastern pilots came to the US seeking employment with the major airlines. I saw it. That is why the government came up with the emergency authority to revoke airman licenses. I deliberately witheld this comment until now. I have watched our great airlines hire many foreigners without needing to be citizens. This is food for thought. From "No truth in Media"

Why does the government lie so. It is very distrubing to be lied to all the time.

Over 240 witnesses saw the missle heading toward the plane........
We know people who saw the upward arc from their house at the beach. We've known them for decades (back to the 60s). Sober, non-political, regular people. I'll take their word for it.

Beirut in 1983 and World Trade Center Part I in 1993 were the first parts in the current jihad.A quibble, but this comes up from time to time and it's not insignificant. The Marines in Beirut in '83 were armed and uniformed combatants in a war zone. A legitimate target.
Sure, we called them "peacekeepers" and they did originally enter the country to police a ceasefire. But the ceasefire collapsed, and the mission changed. The New Jersey, after all, was sitting offshore lobbing shells onto to bad guys ....
We clung to the fiction that the changed facts on the ground did not alter the Marines' status. That was a fatal mistake, as it led to security being lax. After all, no one was supposed to shoot at "peacekeepers."
Self-delusion is dangerous in war.

"I deliberately witheld this comment until now."
For Almost A YEAR, Too! I'm betting you turned blue long ago. That's gotta be some kind of record.
That said, yeah, pilots for US air carriers should be US citizens, IMHO. Especially in the post-9/11 world.
