BLOGGERS: Add Yourself to the Free Republic Blog Directory
vanity | 7/13/2003 | me

Posted on 07/13/2003 1:14:48 PM PDT by Political Numbers Guy

On Friday, I wrote a piece asking why Freepers don't get more involved in reading and writing blogs to expand Free Republic's influence in a growing medium that needs more conservative, pro-Bush voices. The response was phenomenal.

Click here to read the original thread, "Are Freepers Still Winning the Online War?"

One of the ideas that grew out of that thread was to start a Free Republic Blog Directory, or blogroll, as bloggers call it. From time to time, we will list all Freepers with blogs on threads like this to draw attention to their fine conservative writings. All Free Republic bloggers would then be encouraged to link to each of these sites -- and FreeRepublic.com, building a network and boosting traffic to all of these sites. More Links = More Readers visiting your site.

Here is the list so far of Freeper Bloggers. Click to visit their outstanding sites:

Cathryn Crawford
William McKinley
Regnum Crucis
Michael King
Federal Review
Hank's Blog
Imal

If you run a blog that's not on this list REPLY TO THIS THREAD to be added to the Free Republic Blogroll.

The purpose of this isn't just to promote existing conservative blogs that might get short shrift from many of the dominant libertarian blogs. It's to encourage prolific writers, commentators and other Freepers to start their own blogs so we can expand the conservative, pro-Bush blogosphere.

Visit http://www.blogspot.com to set up your own FREE blog and add yourself to the blogroll today.

OK. Now you're asking, I've got my own blog. How do I link to all these terrific sites? One way is to just copy the link list above directly into the links area in your template and add to it as you become aware of more conservative or Freeper blogs. Another way is to sign up for a free account at Blogrolling.com to manage your list of FR blogs.

Free Republic is the top destination for conservatives on the web, and blogs -- which are getting picked up more and more in the media -- are the next logical step in expanding Freepdom. In fact, you could call this Operation Expanding Freepdom.

Blogs might not be everyone's cup of tea, and no one blog can ever match the sheer energy you'll find on Free Republic everyday.

IMHO, though, blogs are very good at sorting through the news. Reading the most recent five or six posts on two or three good blogs will give you a very good idea of what's going on that day. They'll not only post the stories, but they'll highlight the important quotes within them (the "money graf") and offer some short comments. The need to sift through is kept to a very minimum. Really good commentary tends to get highlighted on multiple sites; no need to separate the good vanities from the bad vanities; the good rises to the surface very quickly.

You do bring up a good point about vanities on FR. Blogs hosted on FR could provide an outlet for personal vanities, relieving traffic on the main site. Blogs in general also offer an opportunity to spread the great material posted on FR to other sites.

I never really figured out what people are calling a blog but if you are referring to news, commentary published to the internet on a regular basis (daily chore) you can find me here

GoGov.com Editorial 1"

I also publish (keep up, toil over)

A web portal for News, Opinion and NETcessities. Check it out. If you like it and have a link you would like added, let me know. Then GoGov.com can be your home page too!

Thanks, Ron. That's actually kind of a daily FR bookmark blog.

I also have this one for the show: http://unspunwithannaz.blogspot.com

Blogs in general also offer an opportunity to spread the great material posted on FR to other sites....
And vice versa, i.e. Games People Play
Still, I'd rather spend my online time here on Free Republic, and let the rest of you blog-ophiles sift through the blogosphere - and just post the GOOD STUFF here. :o)
I guess that blogs could also be seen as one giant "profile page" - where many important threads could be archived.

I overlooked your reply earlier- thank you kindly. Cool shirt. I really think the Jackal Pack Press is about to be blindsided by the combination of the web, talk radio, and the blogs working together.

Reminds me of a comedy sketch I once saw. The guy was saying that Otis Redding's 'Sitting on a Dock of the Bay' is so absurd because it is about absolutely nothing. He then did his own version.

Sitting in my lazy chair.
Then I get up and I walk over there
I've done nothing this entire day
And tonight I'll be the same way

They aren't better. They are different. Sort of mini stream-of-consciousness newspaper columns that anyone can publish. I love blogging- but compared to FR it sucks.
