Bush Raises at Least $34M in Six Weeks
By SHARON THEIMER

July 1, 2003
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush's campaign said Tuesday it has raised at least $34.2 million since he announced his 2004 re-election effort in May, with some checks still to be counted.
The Republican's total dwarfs fund-raising by his nine Democratic rivals, including Howard Dean, who racked up more than $800,000 in a daylong Web-a-thon on Monday that put him firmly among his party's money leaders as the second fund-raising quarter ended at midnight.
Bush raised $3 million at fund-raisers in Miami and Tampa, Fla., on Monday while Vice President Dick Cheney helped the campaign collect at least $500,000 in Grand Rapids, Mich., and $600,000 in Akron, Ohio.
The Bush-Cheney campaign had expected to raise around $30 million for the quarter after six weeks of fund raising. Bush entered the race in mid-May."This number represents strong enthusiasm for the president's leadership," campaign manager Ken Mehlman said.

Dean Taps Into Democrats' Frustrations
By MIKE GLOVER

PHOENIX (AP) -- To hear him talk, you can't tell what most peeves Howard Dean: the U.S.-led war in Iraq or his Democratic presidential rivals inside the Washington Beltway.Either way, Dean's take-no-prisoners' pitch is driving scores of supporters and millions of dollars to his long-shot candidacy.
In the first months of the year, the little-known Dean developed a reputation as the outspoken anti-war candidate - a sharp contrast from his more established Democratic rivals in Congress who supported military action. But the anti-war moniker only captured part of Dean's appeal to some Democrats.Edwards blocks GIs' loan break

Edwards blocks GIs' loan break
By Charles Hurt
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
July 1, 2003
Sen. John Edwards, North Carolina Democrat, is single-handedly blocking Senate action on legislation all but unanimously supported by the House to ease the student-loan burden for soldiers fighting overseas.
In April, the House voted 421-1 to pass the HEROES Act, which essentially would defer student loans for soldiers called into action. The only dissenting vote was cast accidentally by one of the bill's sponsors.
The bill is stalled in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee under a "secret hold," said Sen. Judd Gregg, New Hampshire Republican and chairman of the committee.
Senate tradition allows members to lodge secret, or "anonymous," holds against a bill and block it indefinitely.
Supporters of the bill, the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act, were mystified for months that anyone would hold up such popular legislation, but couldn't pinpoint the culprit.
"It's frustrating when something has such overwhelming support and then it gets held up like this," said the bill's sponsor, Rep. John Kline, Minnesota Republican.

I assume your are an intelligent person but that statement you just made defies my belief. How can you call yourself a conservative? That one statement is an affront to President Bush and Vice President Cheney and the rest of us who support them like I have never seen before!
You have about the shortest memory I have ever witnessed -- Bill Clinton was the worst President ever with morals of an alleycat and Gore couldn't tell his right hand from the left with all his reinventions.
It is one thing to disagree with someone's policies but to lump two honorable men in with Clinton and Gore is beneath contempt. You might want to think in the future before posting such rubbish!
Actually it is part of a preparation for a book on how to get elected and re-elected. I have a whole set of theories and practices about how candidates can get elected and stay that way.
But it is not high on my to do list. My wife passed away several months ago. I had a few hundred thousand dollars in medical bills to pay. I have been retired, but now must roll up my sleeves and make some money. There is not that much money in books..... unless you have written some hit books or are famous or notorious. I have no book writing history and am not famous or notorious.
But I have written some major software, and that is what I will be doing for the next few months. I plan to make some bucks to get financially solvent and then retire again. I haven't a clue about what I will do after that. I have been depressed over my loss but am in much better shape now than just a few months ago.
I have a very liberal nephew who ghost writes autobiographies for famous people and politicians. He also writes books under his own name. Doubleday is publishing his latest this fall. He did help me through the grieving process. He understood that the loss of a mate causes the survivor to worry about his own longevity. He had me visit all the tator grave sites in three counties. According to the dates on the stones the average tator lives to be 28 years older than I am now. That really helped a lot.
But several tators have written books.
At a family reunion, I was interviewing family members over the PA system. I asked each what was taking place in their lives. One cousin replied he was really looking forward to retiring. I like the sucker I am, asked when he was to retire. He said in a year an 3 months. Not content to let well enough alone I asked what he was going to do when he retired. He replied "Finish my book!" With some incredulity I asked, "Are you writing a book?" In perfect comedic timing he replied "No sir! ... I am a readin' one."
It sure would hurt, if it were the truth.
You know, I'd be willing to bet that the surviving Branch Davidians, Elian Gonzales and the people who lost sons and brothers and husbands in Mogadishu would be able to tell the difference between the Toon and Dubya.
The other day in Psych class I watched some film of a poor British man who had sustained damage to his hippocampus and could no longer create long term memories. Now I'm wondering if "Marine Inspector" might be his screen name. The Brits have Marines too, after all. How in the world did you forget the Toon's nightmarish presidency already? How in the world did you forget the 3,000 dead his incompetence and negligence cost us less than two short years ago?
Saying Dubya and Cheney are the same as Bubba and AlGore is like calling a virgin a slut because she got kissed on the cheek. And the sad part is that if you get your way and we end up with Dean or the Hildebeest in the big chair, you will whine like a smacked puppy every time they snap off some policy decision you don't like, which would probably be about 4 or 5 times as often as now, no matter what you think about Dubya being a socialist. Trust me, I used to live right across Lake Champlain from Dean's worker's paradise and you ain't seen nothin' yet!
Be careful what you wish for, you may get it. If all the Dubya haters on this site had gotten what they wished for in 2000, Al Gore would be running the War on Terror, that is, if he thought we even needed one. You think Osama is going to live in fear of Howard Dean or John Kerry? Think again, he'll send 'em a fruit basket for Inauguration and the war's over. Heck, France is endorsing Hidebeest for the '04 race; why don't you just make her commander-in-chief? That's reeeeeeaaalll conservative.
Why don't you try reading my posts. Independents are not fringe voters. Fringies like the Greenies and Libertarians are irrelevant. I tell them they are irrelevant because they are. Independents or Centrists as I call them decide nearly all political races. If you had read my posts on this thread you would have seen the evidence that I presented to back up what I say.
Independents are not ideological people. I post that they vote based on what the candidate will do for him. You then confirm my analysis by listing the specific things that Bush had done to please you. Telling me you are an independent is redundant. Your entire post screams it.
Independents have no fixed views or agendas. They float along content to choose between the offerings of the left and the right. Independents are not chefs... they are restaurant customers. They look at the menus in the windows of the two major Restuarants and eat at the one they like best... today.
Independents decide the future with out creating it.
My point is people on the edges of the political spectrum are irrelevant. The far right and the far left never elect anyone or defeat any one. Read all my posts on this thread. They will give you a clue about the political process and give you some information on how the system works.
You talk of me having a short memory.
I won't bore you with all the lies, but here is one by Chaney:
"At the time, CIA analysts were involved in a knock-down, drag-out argument with the Pentagon on this very point. Most of the nuclear engineers at the CIA, and virtually all scientists at U.S. government laboratories and the International Atomic Energy Agency, found no reliable evidence that Iraq had restarted its nuclear weapons program."
And of course, lets not forget Bush lying about the WMD.
You know, I'd be willing to bet that the surviving Branch Davidians, Elian Gonzales and the people who lost sons and brothers and husbands in Mogadishu would be able to tell the difference between the Toon and Dubya.
I'm sure they would too, and I'm sure they would be able to tell you that Bush and Cheney lied to America. Most idiots can figure that out.
How in the world did you forget the Toon's nightmarish presidency already? How in the world did you forget the 3,000 dead his incompetence and negligence cost us less than two short years ago?
I have not. Do 3,000 dead Americans give the President the right to lie to the other 291,403,064 Americans? I don't think so.
I won't bore you with all the lies, but here is one by Chaney:
No, that wouldn't necessarily bore me, maybe you write fiction well. Ahhh, so of course we come back to the main problem every one of you Bush-bashers seem to have with him in the end: The "Why can't we just wall ourselves in and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist" whining. It always comes back to the "unjustified" war which the administration has "lied" about. BTW, what's your source for the CIA quote? Have you noticed that the Cheney speech was offered at a time when the CIA and Brit Intel were certain that there were efforts to obtain uranium? Therefore, Cheney might have been conveying a mistaken assessment, but it was not a lie. Note that this leaves aside all the numerous indications that Iraq was working on uranium enrichment. How does the possession of 3,000 pages of detailed uranium enrichment instructions by Iraqi nuclear scientitsts not indicate something was up? How about all those pieces of "dual use" equipment that was machined for specs that would be silly for anything other than enrichment use, i.e., "rocket body tubes" machined down to extremely fine tolereances? What were they going to do with the enriched uranium, put in in their coffee? As for other "lies" about WMD, how come you folks never have an answer for all those intercepts where Iraqi muckity-mucks were overheard telling their underlings to hide the nerve gas, etc.? Guess Saddam was just having a "hide the imaginary weapons drill" just in case he someday decided to produce some WMD. Maybe right after that all the Iraqi generals held tea parties with their teddy bears and imaginary playmates.
I'm sure they would too, and I'm sure they would be able to tell you that Bush and Cheney lied to America. Most idiots can figure that out.
Well then, quit throwing the elephant and offer some evidence. But also, if you really believe there is no difference in character between the Clintons and the Bush administration, please go to some other nation (Mexico might be good) where your morally blind assessments of universal corruption will be accurate.
BTW, did you vote for Clintoon or Perot in '92 because you thought Dubya's dad was too liberal?
I guess it all depends on what your definition of "is" is.
Also, I'd really love to get an answer to my question about who you voted for in '92. Bet you don't tell me...
Bush.
BTW, I've better thing to do then to argue the semantics of lying, with a Bush-Bot.
I'm sure you do. You can spend hours, I'm sure, yearning for the return of the only-just-as-corrupt-as-Bush Clintoon administration (remember, a vote for Hillary is a vote for Hillary!) and planning your upcoming trip to Mexico.
BTW, nice dodge there. Watch the cards:
You make a material claim that the VP lied about a fake nuclear program.
I present facts that show that the Iraqi nuclear program (and other WMD activity) was real and moving along smartly.
You call that "semantics," even though semantics is argument over terms and I refuted you in the material. In other words, I refuted you with real facts honestly presented and you waved your hand and declared me part of the world of "what 'is' is."
Very handy. Very Clintonian. Or, in your case I'm sure you'd prefer to call it "Bushian."

Sometimes it take a wee push to get the blood up but once its up peoples noggins generaly react ......your reaction i like i love to see and hear the positive .....negativity breeds ignorance and we all could use a little less of that
Thanks silver for such a pointedly correct answer
No sweat. Hard to believe there are still folks who believe we're no better off for getting rid of Clinton.
BTW, nice work on that bait; I bought it hook, line and sinker.
