Is it acceptable to marry a girl who has not yet started her menses? (Islam)
Islam Q & A ^ | 23 June 2003 | Answers supervised by Shaikh M. S. Al-Munajjid

Posted on 06/23/2003 8:32:57 AM PDT by Salman

Question:

I have not yet reached the age of puberty. Is it correct that a girl could get married before her menses start, or is that just a traditional myth?.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

Marriage to a young girl before she reaches puberty is permissible according to sharee’ah, and it was narrated that there was scholarly consensus on this point.

1 – Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the ‘Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubt (about their periods), is three months; and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise”

[al-Talaaq 65:4]

In this verse we see that Allaah states that for those who do not menstruate – because they are young and have not yet reached the age of puberty – the ‘iddah in the case of divorce is three months. This clearly indicates that it is permissible for a young girl who has not started her periods to marry.

No mention of joy or peace or whatever....Why is "love your neighbor" so friggin' hard to understand?

Because it's scary. To be quite honest, I struggle with it ALL THE TIME, and usually fail. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. (Rom. 7:18-19)

I think the root of the problem is that the devil is more than happy to be found wherever you look for him. We see our own sins reflected in others, and tend to react against others, as a means of pushing our own sins away. Thus, we tend to create enemies for ourselves, and battles, and we undertake to judge whether others will or won't be going to hell. What a lovely opportunity for the devil!

This is not to say we shouldn't spot, identify, and resist sin. But we have to be careful that we don't mistake the sinner for the sin.

Why does our state department act like they are helpless to save Sarah Saga, a kidnapped American citizen, and her children born of one of these forced marriages?

As opposed to doing everything possible to make sure she and her children escape a life of chains and slavery, they've done all in their power to discourage her from her goal of returning to the states with her children.

Why do we give any quarter to these backward sandtrogs? How can we be complicit, how can we acknowlege Saudi law, in violation of evey American principle?

It's a pitiful straw man arguement to put forward a handful of our loonie tunes to balance hundreds of millions of murder-supporting Islamic maniacs.

It's a pitiful man who cannot even admit the similarity in mindset and tactics between the two groups.

Yes ---obviously a pedophile rapist is going to design his "religion" to suit his perverted needs. Emmanual of the Smart case was similar to Mohammed except for liking his girls a little older. Mohammed liked them 6 years old.

Islamists are sort of like ant-people - most personal initiative crushed out of them.

Does this apply in West Virginia? How about if she is related to you?

Hah! That reminds me of a story.

Clyde meets Lyle on the streetcorner, and happily congratulates Lyle on his marriage last week.

But then Lyle says "Nope, I got divorced yesterday." Surprised, Clyde says "Lyle, that's terrible, what happened?"

So Lyle explains, "Clyde, on our wedding night I found out that she's a virgin. And, if she ain't good enough for her own family, she ain't good enough for my family!"

Well, I don't know if "crushed" is quite the proper term. The tenets of Islam demand that its followers submit to the word of God, as passed on through His prophet. My limited understanding of their belief is that they'll go to heaven if they can abide by the rules laid out in the Koran. I think that truly devout Islamic people consciously submit to such rules -- they aren't necessarily "crushed" into it.

Of course, there are also the standard-issue Tyrant Mullahs, who do try to crush people, and many times they succeed. And obviously they can and do take advantage of the structure of Islam to lead their followers astray.

There's an awful lot about Islamic society that seems completely twisted -- treatment of women, for example -- that I think probably can be traced back to Mohammed himself. The women thing looks suspiciously like the sort of outlook that might be held by a man who "waits" until his wife turns 9.

Also, there's a certain tribal quality to the whole thing that does not translate well into large-scale society.

I do think Islam is probably a false religion. Which is not the same as saying that all who practice it are going to hell. (For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness." (Rom. 4:3))

IF he waited. He most likely did a fair amount of molesting on the 6 year old child if he actually "waited".

"consummated the marriage with her when she was nine, and she stayed with him for nine years."

What happened to her at 19?

She obviously didn't leave him, women have no such rights in Islam.

Probably he celebrated her 19th birthday by cutting her up into 19 pieces.

As I said in my first post -- I think the truth is that he just couldn't get it in until she was nine. Probably tried from the get-go to do it, though.

But he could divorce her, which is probably what happened. And she probably died destitute.

It's amazing when you realize these people actually have to ask an Iman if it's okay to marry off young girls and the Iman does his research and decides that yes it's okay.

Well, yes -- but if we focus on the big picture (as opposed to this particular issue), the Koran defines how you're supposed to do everything. It's a huge set of regulations, and not all of them are straightforward. The purpose of an Imam is to answer questions in the "right way," because wrong answers get you sent to hell.

In that sense, it's not much different from our having to rely on a tax attorney to keep us out of trouble.

I know ----they even consult the iman about how they're supposed to clean their noses. If I found myself asking my tax attorney how to clean my own nose, I'd start questioning my faith.

Every society grows some insane people, but Islam is an entire society based on insane principles. If you can't see the difference between societies with a 1% insanity rate, and societies where insanity is the law of the land (Sharia) then you must need help tying your shoes and picking socks that match.
