Feud Between Dixie Chicks, Toby Keith Rages in Las Vegas

The war's over, but not the running battle between the Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith.

It flared again during and after Wednesday's Academy of Country Music Awards show at Mandalay Bay.

Booed throughout the three-hour televised show whenever they were mentioned, the Chicks got in the last word, or rather, a statement-making acronym.

While performing "Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)" during a satellite segment from a concert in Austin, Texas, Natalie Maines wore a shirt with the letters "F.U.T.K."

Keith, who attended the Mandalay Bay event, would have had a chance to respond at the end of the show when he was announced as Entertainer of the Year for his song "Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue (The Angry American)."

But he was mysteriously missing, crowning a night of controversy fueled by Maines' onstage criticism of President Bush during a London concert earlier this year. "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas," said Maines. The Chicks all hail from Texas.

Keith responded Thursday during an appearance on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

First he explained his early departure, saying he was off talking with Willie Nelson about doing a song together.

Then Keith provided background on the feud.

"She attacked me about nine months ago over the `Angry American' song," he said. Maines, according to Keith, said she hated it, found it "ignorant, and it makes country music sound ignorant. It targets an entire culture -- and not just the bad people who did bad things. You've got to have some tact."

Keith told Kimmel, "I took the high road for a little bit, and then she didn't think that she got the fight, I think, that she wanted. So then she attacked our president on foreign soil and got the fight she wanted, I guess."

He added, "She's still not done. If y'all think she's done, you're crazy. Stuff comes out of her blowhole daily."

The concert tour sold out a long time ago. The only way to tell if the Dixie Chicks are paying for their repulsive ways is to look at album and merchandising sales. That might not be tallied for awhile. Keep the heat on.

I turned off the show when I heard the Dixie Chumps were going to be on it. I cannot believe that little witch wore a shirt with the letters FUTK. Just proves how not sorry she is for her comments in England. I will not watch or listen to anything she is a part of, ever.

Maines is on the wrong side of mainstream Country Music – there are not any songs about abortion rights for wayward moms, or marriages with Iranians, only Alabama did a song mentioning Democrats being one’s dad back in 1930s depression.

Maines has an Iranian husband who may have British ties; not sure exactly; Maines is Democrat and proud of it; Maines may be a board member on an Abortion Rights platform women's group. We hear very little from her these days on the diversity of her lifestyle and politics.

Maines’ Dixie Chicks then fall from grace as the #1 female recording group in a spat with the rising #1 Artist of the Year. Maines would probably get by in the Rap world where name-calling and accusations "fly and not Eagles" or even the mainstream democrat platform.
