A Moscow-based organization was training Iraqi intelligence agents as recently as last September -- at the same time Russia was resisting the Bush administration's push for a tough stand against Saddam Hussein's regime, Iraqi documents discovered by The Chronicle show.

For Reactor fuel Uranium-235 is enriched by chemical process up to ONLY 4.5% purity. It is enough for nuclier reactor.
A Gas Centrifuge can produce both 5.0% enriched uranium, (light-water reactor fuel), and 90% enriched uranium, (weapons grade). All the Iranians have to do is pass it through successive centrifuges of a cascade until the U-235 is gradually enriched to the desired level.
You are correct, I personally cannot provide evidence that shows Iran used the High Strength Aluminum they purchased from Russia for it's Gas Centrifuges.... However...
U.S., Russia At Odds on Iranian Deal (6/15/01)
"The officials said that the United States and Israel have evidence that the aluminum was delivered to Iranian institutions connected with what they suspect is Iran's nuclear weapons project".
The Russian aid to our enemy Saddam--while obstructing our liberation campaign--demonstrates the unchanged core of the country.
Bush did not see any soul in Putin's eyes--for there is none there.
Bush's statement he "trusts" Putin ought to be taken in context of the late Dr. Fred Schwarz' motto, "You can trust the communists--to be communist."
There must be a price for Putin's treachery beginning with no Russian role in post-war Iraq.
Remember that Russia now sells arms to China, Syria, Iran--while we pay for its nuclear security through Nunn-Lugar.
Russia is an enemy, not an ally.
Absolutely! I cringed when President Bush said he trusts Putin -- never could figure that one out. This is also where I differ with Condi Rice and her wanting to have the Russians as our allies again. With friends like the Russians who needs enemies!
I agree with you 100% -- the United States Government was duped into thinking the Communist who ran Russia had changed when they had only put on a new face and not really changed inside! Maybe if the Clinton Administration hadn't dessimated the CIA as an intelligence gathering organization and relied on sattelites instead, if even that, we would have known more what was happening in the Soviet Union. Would bet clinton was just as happy not to know what his buddies were up to!
I heard this story once:
A woman was collecting firewood in the hills, when the heel of her foot crushed the head of a rattlesnake. The woman felt sorry for the snake, so she took it home and spent months nursing it back to health. Then one day she was throwing some wood on the fire to make sure the snake was warm and it lashed out and bit her. As she lay there dying, she asked the snake "Why did you bite me?" "I saved your life and nursed you back to health!" The snake just hissed and said "Look you *!@#%. You knew I was a rattlesnake.
Yeah, sure whatever. But if they did come out of Syrian military stocks, who sold them to that Syrian Baathist dictator, who is only one step below Saddam and sons on the thug scale and on the terrorist supporter scale as well. On that latter scale the Baaths of Syria might actually be a bit higher than the Baaths of Iraq were.
Please, let's not malign the rattlesnakes by comparing them to the likes of Communists or Jihadies. If you leave the rattler alone, including staying out of it's space, and giving it a little respect when it warns you to do so, it will leave you alone. The jihadies and the communists, maybe especially the communists, don't want to leave you alone. With them it's their way or the highway, and they most especially cannot abid the existance of a society that obviously works so much better than their own.
You do that. On future occasions you should check your facts before start throwing around accusations of being ignorant.
Ok guys. I see my postings bring up the wave of hostility.
That tends to happen when you insult people on FR and call them rednecks.
Now with that out of the way;
If Iran does that then probably they decieved russia.
This is entirely possible. However, one must question how decieved Russia could really be. For example, it is a well known fact, (and was even addmitted by Russian sources), that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons. It is also well known that Iran supports terrorist organizations. If Russia has really changed its ways, then don't you agree that it needs to stop contributing to states that are either communist themselves or that are supporting terrorism?
You see I'm russian conservative. I'm never was communist.
It is natural that russian conservative defends Russia.
Why are you surpised that the Americans are going to be suspicious of you? Russia has only been "Democratic" for 10 years. Given a track record of 70 years of Communism, Russia really needs to do the right thing when it comes to questionable sales such as this, otherwise we will never take you seriously. From what I can tell, Russia is not, and we haven't even addressed Russia's sale of missile technology to these countries. Now, not only will the USA be facing a nuclear threat from Iran in 2005, you Russians will as well. This is of course, unless Russia and Iran are in it together.
And as I said Saddam is bad person. But there are worser then him. So I don't exactly understand why you after him first. There better targets. Musharaff of Pakistan, Saudis, North Korea.
As I said, Pakistan and North Korea already have nuclear weapons, and Saddam doesnt. Also, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are cooperating. Saddam had his chance to cooperate. He chose not to, and so, he becomes an example to the others of what happens when flip the bird to the man.
The Russians plugged into the wrong cell groups in Bugdud..at least in the past tense...
The run away was akin to the fall of Saigon....even small collective organizations melted away quickly.
Russian technicals should have known the Iraqi's fight on the emotional curve...however...look for low scale attacks to continue.
There are advanced munitions available...getting teams trained to operate them is on a time curve.
Technicals from Hizbullah and other terror orgs may desire the Russians to simply give the missiles and goodies to them...then go away.
Iran and Syria may desire to administer directly with no Russian contact in the field.
Since Chechnya....its a dicey relationship with Russian brokers.
Distrust is there...so is anticipation
Apology accepted. Our two countries were enemies for a long time, it is only natural we should 'knock elbows' on certian issues.
So you say you don't forget about other bad guys? Because I'm accualy pro US cleaning south of Russia's border. But I will be disappointed if you stop after Saddam.
Actually I agree with you on this one. I don't think the United States should stop with Saddam, but you guys over there in Russia could help us out alot by cooling it on the arms sales, WMDs or not. Even if you don't give these countries WMD's, giving them the missile means to deliver them, isn't helping things.
Russia is selling defensive arms not WMD.
Selling traditional Arms is something every country does so, I'm not going to take issue with that.
If US have evidence that someone violated that principle then you show it to Putin. I think Putin then will put someone to prison.
I agree, anyone who sells WMD's should be arrested, tried, and acquitted or convicted, but I don't have much faith in Putin as a true 'Democrat'. First off, he is X-KGB and doesn't seem to be someone interested in Democracy and Capitialism. I offer this quote from Putin himself:
"We are not going to export capitalist, democratic revolutions,..."
What do you think about Putin opposing the "cleaning south of Russia's border" as you put it?
I think what may excuse Russia that Russia sold for US currency. 5 blns per year.
But someone else provided those countries with US currency not Russia.
Not exactly sure what you mean here. I think you are suggesting that the arms were purchased with US currency and that makes it ok for Russia to sell it to them.
