New Java Man As Controversial As Old Java Man   02/27/2003
National Geographic says that a new Homo erectus skull named Sm4 reported from Java raises questions on the human family tree.  Scientists differ where it fits.  Tokyo anthropologist Hisao Baba and team, writing in the Feb. 28 issue of Science, are trying to make it a transitional form between African Homo erectus and modern humans, but others think it has nothing to do with the human lineage.  Ann Gibbons in her Science News of the Week commentary says, ”Modern anatomy in the interior of this skull surprised researchers.” Furthermore, dating of the geological strata in the area is tricky; Rutgers geochronologist Carl Swisher states, “Depending on who you talk to it could be half a million years old or less than 100,000, possibly making it, along with Ngandong, contemporary with Homo sapiens.”  Kenneth Mowbray of the American Museum of Natural History reminds us that anatomy size cannot be a reliable indicator of differences between species; consider how a tall basketball player and a vertically-challenged person are polar opposites in terms of size, but both fully Homo sapiens.  “I think they’re grasping at straws to suggest that Sm 4 is an intermediate form,” he said.

When every new find messes up the theories, it’s an indication the approach is wrong.  Do you notice, also, the ambition to find those illusive transitional forms?  The old 1891 Java Man is now just a historical footnote, a misinterpretation by an ambitious enthusiast, as this one appears destined to be.

I remember back in '95, Java men appeared on the cover of every business and technical magazine.

It all turned out to be just so much noise.

The evolutionists just keep grasping at straws.

Isn't that what the human experience is all about? Grasping at straws until you find the right one? These scientists are trying to put together a hundred puzzles with all the pieces mixed together and no pictures on the boxes. If history is any guide, I would imagine they will put them together and a better understanding of the human condition will result.

Carrot Top, Pauley Shore, Yahoo Serious, Judy Tenuda, Emo Williams and countless countless others argue definitively against evolution.

I think its fairly obvious that if time hasn't shattered, as I believe, its moving backwards. But, more then likely, its shattered and things are just happening at random and our poor minds are doing their best to make sense of things.

Just watch Adult Swim on Sundays. There's no other explanation. Evolution is now irrelevant. Answers are now without meaning. Questions...

My other theory is that we were genetically engineered by cats to invent plastic. 'Cause cats love plastic and why would they, unless that was their plan all along.

I think the scientists that are pushing evolution are into brainwashing as they have been brainwashed.

Hey, this is a great idea. I think we should have two threads with two different articles about the same findings for all the crevo threads from now on - one for the C side, and one for the E side...

Earlier thread (same day) on the same topic: Javanese Fossil Skull Provides New Insights into Ancient Humans.

Like, would it have been all that difficult to search on "Java"?

Java Man has been recognized as yet another instance of Homo erectus, a species that ranged far in its time. If you got that little detail, the answer to "So what does science say now about "Java Man?", I don't see in your posts where. You seem to be trying to say that it is null, void, and gone as a transitional, which would be a serious misrepresentation if you were judged competent to know this stuff.
