USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Support our Troops Nationwide Rallies ~ February 21 2003
February 21 2003 | snippy about it

Posted on 02/21/2003 5:09:31 AM PST by snippy_about_it

Today we want to highlight the many upcoming Support our Troops and Patriot Rallies going on in our nation.

We hope you are able to participate in a rally near you or can make the trip to Washington D.C.

We want to show our troops, especially those forward deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom, that in fact America does stand behind her military. We also welcome support for our President, the Commander in Chief.

Folks, check out the links and find a rally near you, plan to attend and show your colors.

If anyone knows of a rally that isn't listed here, please feel free to post a link to it on today's Canteen thread.

From Angelwood: The Patriots Rally for America IV is a go for March 1, 2003 -- if you can get here to stand up for the troops, our Commander-in-Chief and our country, please do so. If you can't travel to DC, please try to make it to another Pro-America, Pro-Troops rally nearer to your home.

Our sources tell us that A.N.S.W.E.R. is still coming to DC on March 1 (as well as their "Convergence" on March 15). They are scaling back their numbers considerably, but they still plan to have staging areas and march to the Capitol with the main rally at 3rd and Constitution.

NEW ENGLAND FREEPERS: RALLY TO SUPPORT THE TROOPS IN MANCHESTER CT

San Antonio Rally

Dear Mr President:

Even as you keep your brave demeanor and tough approach to the current World situation, we surmise that in private moments you surely agonize over the weighty decisions that soon you will be called upon to make.

Our prayers are with you, and our support as well. We know that you will do the right thing, as you see it in your heart. You are a good man.

War is ugliness incarnate, and it is always to be avoided when possible. The day it becomes an attractive option, we fear, then we are all doomed.

But, to every season we must turn. Action now may be the only way to avoid a worse scenario down the road. That decision falls to you and the Congress. It is part of the job description. You must have known that when you signed on.

We don't envy you your task, but we will support you and our fine men and women in the military, as the future unfolds. Support in every way.

Of course, you will take a lot of criticism, no matter what you do. Stand strong. Your strength is our strength. As a nation, that is the way it must be.

God and history will judge us all, eventually.

Best regards,
RG Griffing,
Editor/Publisher San Antonio Lightning Newspaper

PS: Our heroes have always been cowboys.

Glenn Beck's Rally For America

Locations to date:

March 1st, 11:00 AM
San Antonio, TX
Rivercenter Mall Amphitheater

Nationally syndicated radio talk show host Glenn Beck and San Antonio radio station WOAI 1200 AM will host a Rally for America at the Rivercenter Mall Amphitheater.

Located on the gorgeous San Antonio Riverwalk near the historic Alamo, the amphitheater will host a celebration of American spirit and pride.

This event was conceived as a pro American freedom rally, to show the average Joe that he is not surrounded by the seemingly crazy people that much of our media focuses on. No, the crazies are surrounded by you, the ones in the majority in this great land, the decent God fearing hard working Americans that don't sue every time they spill hot coffee in their own laps!

The Rally for America is a group of people that are normal Americans; not media favored celebrities and money grubbing opportunist. The Rally for America is for the people that are the backbone of this country; people who despise war but understand that there are times when we have to fight a war. Both against our enemies abroad, and those within America who look upon the regular average American citizen as something less than decent and caring.

This event will feature local San Antonio KJ97’s Randy Carroll, Mix96.1’s Woody and Singer Beverly Houston + other Special Guests.

March 2nd, Noon

On 8 May, she got underway to join the 5th Fleet and rendezvoused with the fast carriers on 27 May. Severe structural damage to her bow suffered in a typhoon 5 June, forced her to return to Guam for repairs, but she rejoined TF 38 on 21 July to screen during the final air strikes on the Japanese homeland which continued until the end of the war.

From 24 August 1945 until she entered Tokyo Bay 16 September, DULUTH operated with TF 38 which was providing radar picket and combat air patrol for transport aircraft flying occupation forces into Japan. On 1 October, DULUTH sailed for the United States, arriving at Seattle 19 October for Navy Day celebrations.

Based at San Pedro, Calif., DULUTH served a tour of duty in the Far East between 3 January and 27 September 1946, and on 24 February 1947 sailed for an extended visit at Pearl Harbor. Between May and July, she visited Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, Truk, Guam, and Manila. She served again in the Far East, patrolling the China coast, between 22 September 1947 and 19 May 1948, when she returned to her new home port, Long Beach. She carried NROTC midshipmen on a training cruise to British Columbia in the summer of 1948, and in February 1949 joined in cold-weather operations off Kodiak, Alaska. She was placed out of commission in reserve 25 June 1949, and sold on 14 November 1960.

DULUTH received two battle stars for World War II service.

"I received a whole bunch of valentine's day card from a third grade class in Laguna Niguel, CA. The teacher signed it Mrs. Neely and there are of ton of homemade cards!
It's was very fun and interesting reading the mind of a 3rd grader on this.
I am assuming that they got my address from FR!
That really made my day and my folks are still sorting through them."

She had sent an e-mail to my regular e-mail address
looking for some military to send the cards to.
She never did say if she was a Freeper or not.
If you'd like her regular e-mail address just FReep e-mail me.

Census taker: How many children do you have?
Woman: Four.
Census taker: May I have their names, please?
Woman: Eenie, Meenie, Minie and George.
Census taker: Okay, that's fine. But may I ask why you named your fourth child George?
Woman: Because we didn't want any Mo.

A happily married man had only one complaint, his wife was always nursing sick birds.
One November evening, he came home to find a raven with a splint on its beak sitting in his favorite chair. On the dining room table there was a feverish eagle pecking at an aspirin while in the kitchen his wife was comforting a shivering little wren that she found in the snow.
The furious spouse strode over to where his wife was toweling down the cold little bird. "I can't take it any more! We've got to get rid of all of these darn..."
The wife held up her hand to cut him off in mid-curse. "Please Dear," she said, "Not in front of the chilled wren."

The banker fell overboard while taking a cruise on a friend's sailboat. The friend grabbed a life preserver, held it up, and not knowing if the banker could swim, shouted, "Can you float alone?"
"Of course!" the banker yelled back, "but this is a heck of a time to talk business."

The problem - There's a box with a hole at each end and there's a rabbit in the box. The rabbit sticks his head out of the hole in one end, and a minute later he sticks it out the other end. Half a minute later, his head appears at the opposite end, a fourth of a minute later it appears at the end opposite to that one, an eighth of a minute later...etc., etc.
How long will it take before the rabbit sticks its head out of both ends of the box at the same time?
In theory, two minutes.
In practice, no answer is possible unless you split hares.

My ten-year-old son informed us that part of his tooth had come out. We checked and, sure enough, a piece had broken off. Trying to lighten the moment, I asked my husband, "What do you suppose the tooth fairy gives for half a tooth?"
"Nothing," he replied, "She wants the tooth, the whole tooth, and
nothing but the tooth."
