SUPPORT OUR TROOPS - Patriots Rally for America IV - Saturday, March 1, 2003, Washington, D.C.
DC Chapter of Free Republic ^ | February 18, 2003 | Angelwood and Kristinn

Posted on 02/18/2003 8:35:34 PM PST by Angelwood

This is important. Drop what you’re doing. Pack the car, get on a plane, a train, a bus or start walking. Our troops need your support right now! They’re laying it on the line for us overseas and all they are seeing in the media is hundreds of thousands of anti-war/anti-American demonstrators marching in our streets.

As evidenced by this article Anti-war Protests Anger U.S. Troops Inside Kuwait those demonstrations are starting to affect morale. You can do something about that, but it will take time, effort and sacrifice -- a modest sacrifice compared to our men and women in uniform waiting for the the word to take out Saddam and his tyrannical terrorist regime.

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic urges all FReepers and lurkers in good standing, as well as their friends and families, veterans and their friends and families and all others who want to stand up for America and support our troops to join us in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 1, 2003 for the Patriots Rally for America IV from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m at the outdoor Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument.

As the United States prepares to take the next step in the war on terrorism with probable action in Iraq, it is imperative that we get out and show support for our troops, our Commander-in-Chief and all that’s good about America.

Our troops are there to give their lives if necessary in order to prevent another 9-11 from happening to us. Now more than ever, they need to see your support back home. Please don’t let them down.

We are asking you to bring large American and Gadsden flags. Also, signs bearing messages supporting America, our troops, our Commander-in-Chief and the war on terrorism.

That same day, anti-American leftists will be holding an "anti-war" rally and march in D.C. The "anti-war" rally, organized by IAC-A.N.S.W.E.R. , a front group for the communist World Workers Party, will be held on the Mall near the Capitol Building between 3rd Street and 7th Street, N.W. The organizers have permitted other sites as staging areas for many in their group to assemble and then march to the main event. Some of these staging areas include: Constitution Gardens by the Vietnam War Memorial, the Northeast quadrant of the Washington Monument, and Freedom Plaza at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.

Another group has plans to assemble in the DuPont Circle area and march to Constitution Avenue, N.W. between 17th and 23rd Streets.

We do not expect any trouble from those groups. Law enforcement officers will be everywhere to keep the peace and ensure that everyone’s rights are respected.

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

When: Saturday, March 1, 2003 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., rain or shine.

Where: The Sylvan Theater, located on the south side of the Washington Monument grounds at Independence Avenue and 15th Street, S.W.

You and VoC are, of course, going to bring it with you, aren't you?

You have a place to stay.

Humor me on this one:

This rally I'll be working the press table again: greeting and answering their administrative questions and handing out releases and the like. I don't give press comment: I feed it out to whoever they want to talk to, etc. And I help out of towners and tourists who are learning what's going on.

Can you see how, to perform these functions, it's going to be useful for me to appear accessible and not be tied up in social conversations?

It's not useful to have a big social conversation in front of the table, just in terms of the press accessing the table. (Yes, I know, I'm very "visible," but still! ;) It is *particularly* not useful to be involved in a big social conversation with me that you won't let go of even though there's a press person waiting patiently to ask a question. I was too nice about this in the past.

:::drumroll:::

"What's her problem"? LOL, I love you all and yes I did wake up with a bee in my bonnet. All the better to tell you all what's really on my mind. I've no authority to cop such an attitude, but be forewarned I'm doing it anyway: I HAVE A PRESS TABLE ATTITUDE!!!

Even when I appear all nice and accessible and chipper and relaxed -- that's 'cause that's my job. Come help work the table if you want, but let's not use it as a social gathering point.

And absolutely, permission to mock my "press table attitude" granted. I don't write this TOTALLY without a sense of humor. Be as frisky as you want before and after the rally! But not during the rally. :) You've been forewarned. Let me do my job, and don't make the table inaccessible to arriving press and tourists, OK?

This is all a subpoint of goals we all share: to expand and welcome new members and get our message across to new people and be accessible.

Social conversation? You? Definitely a problem. You can't be accused of being social but you definitely have trouble keeping quiet.

;) Yeah, I told y'all to give me the best shot back and BufordP is trying. (I'm waiting to hear from Sauropod.) not much else to do with this thread today -- FR's *really* slow and they've taken our rally eagle off the front page (drat, I referenced the exitence of that logo as a means of locating this thread on the "Rally for America" link).

See you 6:15 p.m. or later: leafletting. Republic's already in town and I'll meet up with her within the hour.

I'm just reacting to the demise of Mister Rodgers, I suppose. :)

Well, the snow *is* falling. It's beautiful, pretty white stuff. The Monument always looks so beautiful in the snow.

Wondering if anyone is going to the Orleans House in Rosslyn, VA for dinner Friday night?

Your snow has me baffled. Still deciding to drive there Friday night or get up early Saturday.

Badray, your everywhere, your everywhere.

Side Bar Comment: Most DC area (VA, MD, DC) hotel/motel rates have gone up 10% in 4 months.

Okay, how much snow did you get yesterday and how much is expected on the ground where we will all be standing Saturday?

I like to travel light, and the answer will determine whether I pack pretty shoes or crappy-weather boots for the weekend...

"Badray, you're everywhere, you're everywhere."

Man, I try, but it's tough sometimes. And it was really tough when I tried to be everything to everybody. ;-) You didn't answer about the Black Russians, but something tells me that there may be a mini invasion on Saturday. LOL

I sent out email announcements about the rally to over 250 email addresses of various conservative, Republican, and veteran groups, mostly DC, MD, and VA people.

Here is a pop up notice about the rally on Baltimore Area Young Republicans. Uses some of the language from my email to them.

Great job, BillF. The popup is really nice. Thanks for doing above and beyond to help make the Patriots Rally for America IV successful.

Warm feet are happy feet, IMO. And happy feet make for happy, lively FReepers.

So, for warm, happy, lively FReepin' feet, I suggest you choose the crappy-weather boots.

Crappy weather will, of course, be gone by Saturday. Latest weather report says cloudy and temps into low 40s for Saturday. Tonight and tomorrow we will get maybe 6" of snow. Not a big deal. And any snow on the ground at the Sylvan Theater will quickly melt away under the crowds of warm, happy, lively FReepin' feet. See you there!

"Are you bringing the Black Russians this time or is that still my job?"

Since you started the tradition, I will yield to you on this. But since I work at Hershey Chocolate (retired but part time), guess what I will bring?

P.S. With forecast temps in the low 40s, it will be 5 times warmer than what we had on January 18th for Rally III and the Marine Barracks Offensive!

Piece of cake!

:) We're going to leaflet at the Pentagon (if they let us mid-tomorrow afternoon). Just letting you know in case any of you want to come!

HighRoad's GREAT brochure -- I've made copies for the press table.

Kristinn, Angelwood: Delegate, honey:
(1) do you want me to work on getting a volunteer for a "live thread" here on FR and
(2) assign me to do any sign-up sheets for the press table that you want, just describe them
(3) what else do you want done
