My computer says,"(Ted)Maher",with Ted in parenthesis. I knew what this was about before I clicked the mouse. The ones that don't know about Ted Maher can find out by scrolling down the thread. I don't think smarta$$ remarks are necessary to find this out. the admin moderator changed the headline.

I am a court reporter. Even when a person speaks in a different language, I transcribe it in ENGLISH because that is what our courts use. It stands to reason that a French court would have a transcription in French.
And you said the confession WAS in French, right?

I honestly cannot tell you specifics Rodney; only enough to say there is suspicious behavior here on the part of the Monocan Government.....honestly, I cannot remember lots of it because I've been doing stuff on voter fraud thread, and before that, and during, stuff with Daschle. I seem to recall he denied his confession, but I cannot tell you, specifically, where I read that or when....
That why I posted the link.....I felt it was important enough to DOUBT Monaco's versions of the "facts" from reading the Ted Maher thread for the past year...so you, and other interested persons, can read things that have been written (by the Representative, by the wife, by the sister, etc.) on FR. And there's articles linked or printed to the thread, too, not just opinions.

"He was there, in front of a zillion or so reporters, outside the court, and he didn't say one PEEP about being railroaded."He's been held since 1999...his trial didn't take place until 2002. I tend to get a tad suspicious of any law enforcement agency, in any country, which holds prisoners for three years before they bother to take them to trial. What is happening right here, in this country, with Muslim (mostly illegals) being held on charges of being, or aiding and abetting, terrorists? After only a few years, the lawsuits have come hot and heavy. Unfortunately, Mahar wasn't being held in this country.
For some reason, POWs and brainwashing just comes to mind.

I believe the man's first name (Ted) WAS used in the title.

Is it not uncommon for those close to the defendant to feel he was incapable of whtever crime he was accused of? Yes. And people on this site USE to laugh at stuff like that.

You are a court reporter? Guess what I don't believe it, and you are free to prove me wrong, because every court reporter I know carries a recorder with them, (1) so there will be an original record of the statement, and (2) so that the reporter can go back and check her transcription against the real record.
If you really were a court reporter, you would know that. I have no more time for you.

but you still didn't answer the question . . . which leads me to believe your probably switching back to online DOOM, or (if you are the 45 year old fat loser I think you are) online dungeons and dragons . . . And YOU haven't answered any of my questions, such as who is the source for this "coerced" confession story, since Ted himself refuses to confirm it by any means?
You're definitely no judge of character...your silly characterizations only confirm it.

I was on a federal grand jury in Bridgeport, CT for two years (we met 3 days per month) and the court reporter only used her shorthand typing machine deal. No tape recorder.

I know there are legitimate questions raised about the behavior of others in this case. no doubt about it.
And I know where you're coming from, I believe you were railroaded at one time.
But I can disreagard the things family members say, and am interested in more truth than inuendo in regards to what happened that night. they are too emotionally involved.
All the crap that took place in Monaco with Mrs. Maher after the fact is, frankly, irrelevant to Maher's guilt or innocence.
The man took the stand. He spoke what he had say. His defenders want us to see him as an Amercian Soldier. As an honest man. As a caregiver. He had the opportunity to say something different in front of the press. He chose not to. I believe because he believed what he said that day.
Ted Maher is lucky to be out in ten years. Most likely it will mean 2008 or so, with time served and good behavior. He will get to see his kids grow. I thought he was going to get worse.
To: wimpycat
Well, I would vouch for you not being a fat loser behind your keyboard, but it doesn't believe I'm a court reporter.......LOL.

Ok,
Then if I was a court tv reporter, what difference would it make?
To: Poohbah
Sorry...brain death is coming early today...
"After only a few years, the lawsuits have come hot and heavy" SHOULD HAVE BEEN:
After only a few MONTHS, the lawsuits have come hot and heavy.
To: auggy
The (Ted) wasn't added to the title until much later (150 posts or so).
And his smarta$$ remarks were a response to even more smarta$$ remarks made by some whiner to him. (I don't remember the post #, just look at the message he replied to).
I thought (and hoped) it was Bill Maher too.

I just checked my comments...another person whose been updating the threads is American Preservative....he might be able to help with more questions....all I know is I've been pinged to read that thread more times than I can count, for more months than I can remember....although I read many posts there, I haven't focused on it....just enough to keep myself kind of updated....last week was the trial, I had no time to read much of anything on that thread....so whatever may have happened last week, I have absolutely no knowledge....
To state this simply, I knew enough to direct you all to a thread where there is more information.....and since many here haven't even heard of Ted Maher (and I, of course, have), or his plight (which I am at least familiar), it figured it best to post the fact that I am aware (and believe) his statement was taken out of duress; there is definitely something "wrong in Denmark," so to speak, and point out a direction to get more info: the thread, and three FReepers: Phil Dragoo; Fred Mertz; and American Preservative. They can probably give you way more instant information than I could do any justice.
To: Rodney King
That is in court, that is not for a deposition or a confession. Plus, neither of us know whether the reporter also had recorder in court that you just didn't see.
Some of you guys are here just to disrupt, which I really don't understand, there is more to do in life. But for those of you who truly want to discuss the issue, think about why you would want to take a video or audio confession. A video confession shows the demeanor, affect, stability, state of mind, of the confessor. It is the number one insurance against getting a confession thrown out. Think of what it would have done in this case. If Ted had been caught on video tape confessing, just hours after the incident, I would have jumped on board and said the guy was guilty. But here, there is no tape. And the confession, I believe, came days after the incident. More importantly, it came after his wife had been detained in MCO.
