I don't see why everyone sees a black man..
In a black and white print -- there are no features that excludes other races...

I think too many people ASSUME things from intentional visual tricks...

Hell, I looked a lot like the picture in my youth, and both my parents were Greek immigrants.

LOL. I assumed it was a black man because he bears a faint resemblance to Emmitt Smith of the Dallas Cowboys.

Okay folks. Here's the explantion in full from the way I was taken by the image.

First off, isn't it amazing how art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder?

Follow closely. The man is in a hurry. He is walking from right to left, which means that he's going away from the left. His angry, disgusted look to me reveals his newfound revelation of some sort. The left hand has no shackle, but the right hand does.

The left arm is seen as just having been "snatched" away from whomever was just on his left. His right hand is newly freed, raised skyward, and his right hand is OPEN.

Let's compile my mental image, shall we? When I first saw this image, I saw myself. This is exactly how I reacted once my eyes were opened to what the Left was truly doing to me and every other black person in America. I, too, was "in a hurry" while departing the Left. My left arm, if you will, was indeed "snatched" away from them.

My "right" hand became "open" to the knowledge that was found on the Right. The chain on the man in the image still has a shackle on his right arm, right? Well, so do I. So does mhking. That "shackle" is a reminder of the way of the Left. We were there. It's not going to go away, either. And that's a good thing. No need in taking off a shackle from the left hand because there never was one there.

Back to the right hand. It's "open," but it's not begging. I can understand where that opinion comes from (although it may say a little something about the one holding that particular opinion, but I digress since I asked for honest opinions). I see it this way. Since his right palm is facing towards the Left, he's saying, "Goodbye!" That's exactly what I did, but I said, "Holla!" It's slang, but don't sweat it if you're in Rio Linda.

Lastly, the left hand again. It's balled into a fist. That's important because the rage that the Left produced will soon be turned on its originator.

I saw a lot, didn't I? But so did a lot of you. That's fine. I didn't draw this. It came from Horowitz's site (FPM). Honestly, I was blown away as soon as I saw it. Then an impish grin creeped across my face. Oh, yeah. It's on.

I'm going to use it with the slogan, "Democrats? Later for all that!" right under it. I want the image, if it's powerful as some of you say it is, to intellectually "punch" the Left right in the mouth and keeps the attention focused on it. In this case, and with this slogan under it, there will be no such thing as "bad press" regarding it. Whether one is praising it and "getting it," or if one is cursing its shock-value or message, it will confront. I believe that it's an image that commands an answer, though it may not be an immediate one. But after looking at it, it forces the beholder to make a decision.

Imagery. It's everything.

It is a powerful image. The "details" don't speak to specifics however. As one poster put it, the sigular message is "Freedom". Beyond that it's just too hard to draw more out of it without some external context.

Outstanding! This picture isn't something you can just flip right on past, you are compelled to stop and really look at it.

I think it's got "firestorm" written all over it :)

This is a prototype, but if it has "firestorm" written on it, the higher the flames rise the more I like it!

"It's just screaming out "No More Democrats!"

With all due respect. It's NOT screaming out anything like that. You can't overcome with subtlety what has been etched in the brains for decades. The other posters ,who I think you disagree with, say it screams of communist and lib/rat propaganda. I agree. I do see what you are TRYING to illustrate, but whatever slogan you chose could be substituted and the message would be 180 degrees out. The graphics are great, but I think that talent could be used better.

Maybe take the shackle off the one hand reaching up and have a subdued pic of MLK with a short few words from his 'I have a Dream' speech in the air. Maybe the left hand holding a removed hood. Hood would signify being blinded by race-speak. The hood could either have a reference to the KKK OR a hood worn during a lynching, or even better a hood hiding the TRUTH. I read this post hours ago and have been thinking about it a lot. I'm just trying to brainstorm here.

I developed a close friendship with a man from the lowest ghetto in the SFO/Berkeley area while in Vietnam. Not sure where it was, but I was thinking of him while I was thinking of the idea you are trying to convey. Wish I could have talked with him about this. (old memories/off)

Best Regards,

I guess it's who your intended audience is and what the words are that will be attached to it.

Standing alone, it looks scary to me, an elderly white woman. It seems to be a call to arms for black militants to kill white people, using the phony excuse of slavery that I and my ancestors had nothing to do with.
